Troopers Investigate Serious Crash Involving Fleeing Vehicle



Millsboro-The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a serious crash involving a vehicle which fled from a Delaware State Trooper and collided with a second vehicle in the intersection of Lawson road and Hollyville road, near Millsboro this afternoon.

Preliminary investigation has determined that the incident began on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at approximately 3:03 p.m. as a Delaware State Trooper observed 1995 Oldmobile Cutlass Ciera on John J. Williams (SR 24) fail to stop at a stop sign at the Layton Davis road and SR 24 intersection. The Trooper observed the vehicle driving erratically and also believed the driver to be impaired. The Trooper activated all of his emergency equipment in an attempt to follow the fleeing vehicle. The driver, later identified as Keiyanda M. Hopkins, 32 of Millsboro, failed to follow the commands and continued to flee. The Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera continued to travel recklessly on Streets road, Cordrey road, Maryland Camp road, Townsend road, Mount Joy road and then right onto Lawson road traveling at high rates of speed approaching the Hollyville road intersection and failed to stop at that stop sign. It was at this intersection of Lawson Road (CR 296) and Hollyville (CR 305), Hopkins failed to stop for the posted stop sign and entered into the the path of a 2012 Mazda MZ3 operated by Matthew D. Revel, 26 of Millsboro. Revel attempted to swerve left to avoid striking the Cutlass Ciera and collided into the vehicle’s left front end with his right front end. Both vehicles were forced northwest direction and stopped south of the intersection in the roadway.


Keiyanda M. Hopkins-32 of Millsboro, Delaware was identified as the operator of the 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera. She was transported initially to the Beebe Hospital and then later to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center with non-life threatening injuries. Treatment status and disposition are unknown at the time of this release.

Matthew D. Revel-26 of Millsboro, Delaware was the driver of the 2012 Mazda MZ3. He was transported to the Beebe Hospital for his non-life threatening injuries where he was treated and released.

Troopers have obtained warrants charging Keiyanda M. Hopkins with Disregarding a Police Officer Signal, Vehicular Assault 2nd degree, Driving under the Influence of Drugs, three counts of Resisting Arrest, Driving While Suspended/Revoked, Failure to Remain Stopped, two counts of Failure to Remain in Travel Lane, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign and Driving at Unsafe Speeds. She will be formally charged and arraigned when medically cleared and released from the hospital.

The intersection of Lawson road and Hollyville road in the area of the crash was closed for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Troopers continue to investigate this incident and any further charges will be filed at the conclusion of the investigation.

Just can't follow directions. This is what cops have to deal with everyday . Follow directions and stay alive. Simple concept but they still won't understand. Too stupid.
