“We are thrilled to receive this award from the Walmart Foundation,” said SNHS Executive Director Cheryl Meadows. “The funds provided will support all of our counseling activities, help broaden our marketing efforts and help us serve the clients of SNHS in a more efficient manner. Whether you want to become a homeowner or you’re already a homeowner that may be facing foreclosure, SNHS offers a safe, no pressure atmosphere where clients can obtain the information they need to be successful.”
As the country's mortgage crisis continues to place area homeowners at risk, SNHS offers immediate assistance through a series of strategies and programs. SNHS has developed a comprehensive response to the foreclosure crisis that includes community education, outreach to at-risk homeowners, foreclosure mitigation counseling services and strategic partnerships.
“The Walmart Foundation is committed to providing opportunities for individuals to live a quality life, and we understand that organizations like Salisbury Neighborhood Housing Services are helping to build stronger communities by supporting the individuals within it,” said Walmart Director of Public Affairs Jennifer Hoehn. “We’re pleased that Salisbury Neighborhood Housing Services members and participants will be positively impacted by this grant and that a population whose needs are often overlooked due to budgetary constraints will be helped.”
The Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program supports organizations that create opportunities so people can live better, awarding grants that have a long-lasting, positive impact on communities in Maryland. In the last fiscal year, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $7.5 million in cash and in-kind contributions to charitable organizations throughout Maryland.
About Philanthropy at Walmart
By using our strengths to help others, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation create opportunities for people to live better every day. We have stores in 27 countries, employing more than 2.2 million associates and doing business with thousands of suppliers who, in turn, employ millions of people. We are helping people live better by accelerating upward job mobility and economic development for the retail workforce; addressing hunger and making healthier, more sustainably-grown food a reality; and building strong communities where we operate and inspiring our associates to give back. Whether it is helping to lead the fight against hunger in the United States with $2 billion in cash and in-kind donations or supporting Women’s Economic Empowerment through a series of grants totaling $10 million to the Women in Factories training program in Bangladesh, China, India and Central America, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are not only working to tackle key social issues, we are also collaborating with others to inspire solutions for long-lasting systemic change. A tax write-off for investing in third-world sweatshops, and they proudly point to it as charity that addresses "social issues".
Now that's wringing out some P.R.
