I remember the heartbreaking accident in Easton about 20 years ago that killed people including the school bus driver in a foggy situation. Next time you go throught Easton - just past the high school on Rt. 50 - you will see Dutchmen's Lane intersecting Rt. 50. On a foggy day year ago they decided the fog wasn't all that bad and sent the kids on in. It got worse. Then the accident occured where one driver said he couldn't see due to the fog. Since then, even if its a "little bit" of fog compared to those of us who commute to work, the school systems play it safe, in case the fog becomes worse.
I have no problems with seemingly minor fog delays. I am thankful my child was not in a bus during a sad event like that. Nothing wrong with putting children's lives at the top of a list of priorities. Just my opinion. Daggone, I had forgotten how bad a tragedy that was. Still sad remembering the loss.
Since it appears to be a thorn in your side, why not become a teacher, and enjoy all the perks and glams of teaching. IMO you soon would be singing a different tune.

This is a good comment. I have never been a teacher, but I am not stupid enough to think they lead a charmed life. Some of the comments that you read here and other places are just plane stupid.
8:36 - Some did and some did not. My guess many got up to finish grading, planning, or figuring out how to help and under performing child while at the same time further motivate a gifted child.
Come on, we know you are on a gravy train with biscuit wheels. Higher than average pay, great benefits, and the summer off along with every damn holiday, and professional day all at the property tax payers expense!!!!
Most teachers I've met probably don't get paid enough or at least are fair. My grudge is the weather people getting it so wrong and without any consideration of the costs created and business $$ lost. This mornings horrible forecast was the equivalent of me alone flushing $300 down the toilet.
So much fog you can't see two inches in front of you, no delay. Parents complain up a storm that the BOE is "inconsiderate" of the students' safety. Hardly any fog, BOE calls a delay to play things a little safer. Parents complain because "there's no reason for a delay". Moral of the story: people are going to complain no matter what decision is made. You can't make anyone happy anymore, someone always has to be bitching and complaining about something.
OMG!! Just because there was no or light fog in your 25 sq ft of space or on your commute on main roads to work doesn't mean there wasn't any. Wicomico County is huge with a lot of rural areas and farmed fields. In the winter, just because your residential street or highway is clear does NOT mean that the rural areas are clear and safe to travel on.
These bus drivers have the lives of YOUR (and my) children in their hands. Always better safe than sorry. Just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it won't.
You people need to step out of your self-centered world a little more and live in your technology a little less!
Teacher <---- at work by 7 am today.... Graded papers, called parents, planned lessons, projects, and field trips. Still came home after 5 pm. Stop making us sound like we do nothing. My hallway was full of teachers by 7:45 am doing the same. We are doing a year's worth of work in 9 months. Vilifying teachers will do nothing to help the current education system. Volunteering will. Feel free to donate your time to a classroom. Be a model for our kids. Tearing us down will help no one. If you want the so called perks you bring up, get a degree, then a 'Master's, and put yourself in one of the most under appreciated and high stressful jobs in the world.

Not likely.

WoW, called for fog and no rain.
Got no fog and pouring on the kids at bus stop that was dry two hours ago.

I hope the WCBOE complaint phone is melting this morning
Everyday is a "FOG" day for today's kids, they are all in a fog.
11:43 It's all to do with the poor quality of education our kids are getting from the government run schools!

Nobody else gets to delay arrival at work due to "fog". You get to work on time, no matter what.
7:11 You do realize, that being in a school bus in an accident is much safer than in a regular car?
