According to witnesses, the victim, an 8-year-old female, was swimming with friends in shallow water when she was struck by a wave. The young girl was overcome by the wave and pulled in to the inlet waters.
Minutes later, an on-duty Maryland Natural Resources Police patrol vessel responded to the area and located the child nearly a quarter of a mile off shore. The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to the United States Coast Guard Station, where Ocean City EMS continued life-saving efforts.
The child was immediately taken to Atlantic General Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. An autopsy to confirm the cause and manner of death is currently being conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, however; the results were not available at the time of this release.

Tragic loss...the story leaves me confused...was the child swimming in the inlet itself or was she swept over the jetty itself and placed in inlet?
terrible
There's more to the story, much more. Note the report states manner of death pending State Medical Examiner.
I find this story very suspicious. Someone posted earlier, on here I believe, that that something was going on at the rocks. Needless to say I think the parents are very negligent in allowing their child to go anywhere in the ocean with the way the surf has been. The surf was very dangerous over the weekend and I believe Ocean City should have had more warnings telling people not to go in the surf. They probably should have closed the ocean off to allow NO swimming.
10 16 telling the idiots that they cant go in the ocean would not work. was down on beach this sat. and sunday and saw the lifeguards wave the idiots in numerous times and they just go out farther . half the idiots out there cant swim in a pool much less then the ocean
Where in the Hell where the PARENTS? They need to be held accountable.
