Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Train

Newport - The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a collision involving an Amtrak train that struck and killed a pedestrian near Newport.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:07 a.m. this morning, Sunday September 20, 2015, on the train tracks between Water Street and E. Ayre Street approximately .4 miles east of SR141. A preliminary investigation indicates an Amtrak train struck and killed a pedestrian. The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was removed from the scene by the Delaware Division of Forensic Science.

Detectives are continuing their investigation into this incident and more information will be released when it becomes available.
