POULTRY INDUSTRY EXPANSION, COMMUNITY HEALTH & LOCAL CONTROL

How Delmarva citizens are combining their voices and power to keep their rural communities and local waterways healthy.

Assateague Coastal Trust and the Assateague COASTKEEPER present this Town Hall meeting as an educational and informative presentation to the general public who have concerns about the expansion of the poultry industry on Delmarva and how it may affect their lives, their health, their communities and their environment.

The intent is to give a sense of empowerment to local citizens who might otherwise think they have no ‘say’ in what happens to their community, by enlightening them to successful efforts in Somerset County and introducing them to others who are working for ‘local control’ in VA, DE and PA.

JOIN US WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 from 6-8pm at Henson Hall on the campus of University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, MD for this exciting Town Hall public discussion, moderated by Marc Steiner, host of “The Marc Steiner Show”, a production of the Center For Emerging Media.

Marc will be interviewing a panel of public health experts from Johns Hopkins University Center for a Livable Future; Eastern Shore environmental justice community advocates; along with MD, DE and PA residents active in organizing ‘local control’ zoning strategies through the adoption of “Animal Feeding Operation Health Ordinances.”
You will learn why, in the face of unprecedented poultry industry expansion on Delmarva, your counties need to proactively adopt AFO Health Ordinances into their zoning codes in order to provide communities and poultry feeding operations room to co-exist.

Currently there is a void in the public health discussion - zoning setbacks only address land use one parcel at a time. Health Ordinances addresses a broader set of issues like density, intensity, and cumulative impacts to neighbors and waterways.

We are strongly suggesting that the folks across the Eastern Shore attend the Town Hall meeting on Sept 16th, whether you are from DE, VA or MD.

It’s extremely rare to have available all the expertise that will be in this room - from public health experts, human rights leaders, environmental justice groups, attorneys, media and like minded citizens trying to protect their communities.

Take advantage of this opportunity to create relationships and network with people who can genuinely give valuable help as you protect your water, health, property values and quality of life.

This IS the silver bullet. Your strength is your united voice. Do not let this opportunity go by. There is power in numbers and it is too important to sit on the sidelines and hope someone else will fight for you. We have an obligation to protect the places we live and love-for future generations.

Anytime that you hear the phrase "environmental justice"---Beware! The probability is you are listening to an environmental wacko of the Al Gore, Cathy Phillips variety. Big woop, Attorneys will be there along with a bunch of ultra lib overpaid college professors. How could pass this up. This will be a huge dose of equine excrement.

Elitists who want all and any economic development stopped.

If these "Come-here's" have their way, the farmers (and the ag communities) that give Delmarva its character will be driven out.
Eventually you all will find yourselves up to your eyeballs in three-story condos full of people from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania complaining about everything you do.
Don't miss this opportunity.

how many poultry industry reps will be there to refute this propaganda?

probably not one was invited, so all you get to hear is bullshiite from a bunch of liberal global warming asshats that don't know squat about what it takes to feed people.

all they want is a direct route from baltimore to o.c. and not have to smell chicken crap along the way.

sad thing is, they will probably have a bunch of people there who actually believe the garbage spewing from their lying mouths.

God, i wish someday these people would have to fend for themselves. it would make great theater.

Gee, and nobody from the Delmarva Poultry Industry was invited????

Really????

So there's no need to go, as only one anti business agenda will be "covered" (spewed).
