FCC Chairman 'Will Not Let Up' on Broadband Regulation

The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission made clear Friday that his plans for broadband policy are far from over.

"Here's the punchline," Chairman Tom Wheeler said at the Brookings Institution. "It's pedal to the medal on broadband policy for both consumers and competitors."

Wheeler called broadband the most "powerful and pervasive platform on the planet," saying it is "unthinkable" that it could exist without government oversight. He emphasized the necessity of having policies that address the power that large companies have over broadband and who is able to access it.

He said that it was unacceptable that in this day and age, broadband is still unavailable to some. Calling it "indispensable," Wheeler said the FCC is planning to make broadband cheaper, fairer and more accessible by pushing competition, offering economic incentives and enabling new government policies.

Regulation of the network, Wheeler said, "can only be done at the highest level of government."

Which begs the question, "How did the internet get so powerful and indispensable?

Answer: Without any regulation by the government! Without the FCC. Within the free markets of private industries and ISP's!

Keep your hands off her, Biff!

Air, water, food, they are indispensable. Not the internet. The government is going to ruin another great advance for mankind.

The government controls the MSM, and therefore they are in bed together. Therefore, the gubmint is not afraid of those they have control over.

The Internet, since it's not controlled by them but instead a free exchange of relevant information by free people, scares the crap out of them and they are chomping at the bit to control it as well. They want exposures of Hillary's and Lehrner's emails to be covered up and go away. And uncovering Benghazi and the NSA spying as well. They want to be able to stop those danged bloggers from putting out all these stories.

They make slogan-like statements like, "Regulation of the network, Wheeler said, "can only be done at the highest level of government." " in hopes that people will actually believe that somehow if the government is not brought in that the internet will somehow implode.

The fact is, not "everybody" needs, or even wants the internet. People in ultra rural areas live there because they like lower, slower, off the grid type living and could give a rat's arse whether they ever bought a computer or not.

Many of my neighbors have high speed on the power pole in the front yard, yet choose antenna TV instead. There is no emergency, and those who want super high bandwidth right now already have the means to buy it and get it, or will move to a neighborhood where it's available for sale. Heck, it's on the satellites and accessible from EVERYWHERE!

What we DON'T need is government regulation, and no, it is NOT a "public utility" nor does it even resemble one.
