Coach Hal Chernoff Heads To Las Vegas For A World Championship Fight

Main St Gym Coach, Hal Chernoff, heads out to Las Vegas to work the corner of past world Champion Shawn Porter.

Porter fought 5 times in Salisbury including his debut bout. Kenny Porter (Shawn's father and coach) and I formed a close friendship way back when Fernando and Shawn we kids and fought each other in all the big tournaments.

When Kenny and Shawn would come to Salisbury, they always felt at home largely in part because of how the people in Salisbury seemed to like Shawn, his demeanor, and his fighting style. Now they are at the top of their game, and I am very happy for them. So when they called and asked me to help in the corner of Shawn's fight on June 20, 2015 I was happy to accept their invitation.

I will be working as the cut man in the corner so you have to be prepared for anything. As part of the team and a corner, your job is to fall in and help keep everything calm organized and consistent for the fighter. If a cut or cuts happen you have 45 seconds to deal with it while maintaining calm and controlled. The last thing you want to do is get a fighter stressed by being erratic or saying the wrong thing." said Chernoff.

Porter won a world title at the welterweight division and lost a close decision and the title to Kell Brook of England. Chernoff has been a close confidant to Team Porter and has been part of their corner when they fought in Salisbury as well as while Porter held his world title. He is now back in the ring to help Team Porter return to champion status.

Porter is on a mission to regain the title and will fight the ever flamboyant Adrian Broner. Broner held the title before losing it to Marcos Madina. Broner is a flashy fighter that can be antagonistic outside the ring and use dirty tactics at times inside the ring. He is well known for his foul language, explicit gestures and having his hair groomed by his father as he enters the ring.

Porter on the other hand is credited with being an all business fighter that doesn't allow himself to get pulled into the antics of pre-battle hype. One thing is for sure this will be a barn burner of a fight the boxing public has waited to see.

The fight comes on at 8:30 Saturday evening on NBC.

That's not a very professional statement for the time of the fight.

Something like "The fight can be seen this Saturday on NBC starting at 8:00 PM." looks a little more professional.

I'm not the grammar Nazi, just trying to help y'all out. Thanks
