Mayor of Baltimore Stephanie Rawlings-Dinkins should seek out this Baltimore woman and personally explain her decision to stand down the police. She owes it to Katrice Gardner who is now homeless and jobless thanks to a mayor who is ill-equipped to lead the city of Baltimore.
NY Daily News reports in one night of mayhem Katrice Gardner lost her home, her job — and nearly her life.
And when dawn broke Tuesday, the 30-year-old Baltimore woman said she couldn’t understand why the mob that battled the police all night firebombed her house and reduced the CVS where she worked as a manager to ashes.
“I was yelling at them, pleading at them not to burn my house,” Gardner, 30, said outside her boarded-up rowhouse. “They had set the houses around me on fire. They were throwing stuff into the house. They were throwing Molotov’s and very flammable stuff. All I could do was beg them not to burn my house.”
Gardner said she — like most African-Americans in Baltimore — is deeply upset about the death of Freddie Gray, allegedly at the hands of police.
But Gardner said she didn’t recognize the people who starting lobbing bricks at cops and looting businesses after Gray’s funeral on Monday.
“These guys aren’t from here, they go from place to place causing trouble,” she said. “This doesn’t accomplish anything. This is our neighborhood.”
Gardner, who is married, said she now has no place to live and no place to work.
“I can’t live in my house while it gets renovated and the place where I work got burned down,” she said. “I don’t have a home and a place to work. This is a lot of calamity.”

Oh Boo Hoo. Suck it up. She's the problem.
They're all complaining and denouncing the violence but always preface it with "I understand the frustration" nonsense.
How can anyone with a functioning brain "understand" anything they do. They have all the opportunities in the world. Free this free that. Social workers and day care on site at The Projects courtesy of the Housing Authority (tax payers). Addiction treatment, education help, job training. More money is spent per student than almost anywhere in the entire US and still have an over 60% chronic absentee rate among black student. More money is spent on youth programs and centers than anywhere else in the state.
But they are still "angry" and "frustrated."
Press conference w/the family of Gray said it all last night. Man introduced himself as "one of Freddie Gray's 2 fathers." The only thing that would have been LESS surprising would have been if he said he was one of Grays 5 fathers. That's the way they roll up there and that's the problem and that's their only problem. The complete breakdown of the family. Their dependence on the government doing what mothers and fathers should be doing.
But they don't want to hear it. It's always someone else's fault.
This will blow over and the only thing that will change is they'll be out a CVS. They will continue to wallow around in their self created cess pools of crime and poverty until THEY decide to change.
From the linked article-
"Tony Banks, 48, said the destruction makes him sad, but he understands why the young men in the West Baltimore section lashed out violently against the police."
In other words. . .the destruction is a legitimate form of socio-political rebellion. Here lies the whole problem in a nutshell. Excuses after excuses instead of taking responsibility.
Federal funding should first be used to rebuild everything that was torn up during the riots. If the citizens of Baltimore realized that they would be reluctant to tear any more up or burn anything else down.Everything that was destroyed should be rebuilt BETTER than it previously was.
10:14's comment is a prime example of the cluelessness and low information that prevails in today's society.
Are you aware 10:14 for the past years (every 30 or so years) the low income have had 3 different types of housing built for them in Baltimore. The first they managed to crap up, so they decided to build them the high rises. Within 10 yrs they became inhabitable due to destructive irresponsible behavior and crime. An example being, towards the end before they were imploded, a lot had no water in the upper floors because residents were too lazy to call maintenance to correct plumbing leaks, which cause water pressure to fall so upper floors had no water. We won't even go into the crime problem, but at one time the Housing Authority had it's own PD force. Then they built townhouse style/low rise apartments for them. They quickly turned into something akin to a war zone. You build parks, they become a hangout for drug users and dealers, prostitutes and a trash depository and ad hoc cemeteries for murder victims dumped in them.
The major problem with people like 10:14 offering up their suggestions and opining on what should be done, is that they've never gotten out in the real world to see how it really is and not how they think it is.
Rebuilding isn't going to change the mindset of these people so get than notion out of your head. City officials and residents had to beg CVS to build there to begin with so they decided against their concerns to build and see what happened. These people have respect for nothing including themselves. They allow themselves to become criminals and drug users and addicts and mother's to children by fathers who are criminals.
