News You Can Use from Wicomico Schools

Jan. 5-23: Detour on North Division Street for Drainage Project
As part of Salisbury Public Works’ ongoing effort to keep the public informed of improvements within the City of Salisbury, please be advised that beginning Monday, Jan. 5, the State Highway Administration (SHA) will implement a three-week street detour for motorists along North Division Street in Salisbury. The street closure will allow work crews to continue to make progress in significantly improving drainage in the Newtown neighborhood. SHA’s contractor will begin installation of upgraded drainage pipes and new, ADA compliant sidewalks at the intersection of North Division Street and William Street.  The work will also include replacement of City waterline and valves in the intersection.  Pipe installation will require about three weeks of work, 24-hours a day, Monday through Friday, in January. Traffic detours around the work zone will be established.  Southbound motorists on Division Street will turn right onto West Isabella Street, followed by a left turn onto Mill Street, then a left turn onto West Chestnut Street, returning motorists to Division Street.  Motorists travelling northbound on Division Street will turn right onto East Chestnut Street, then left onto Poplar Hill Avenue, then left again onto East Isabella Street, returning to Division Street. While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Drivers are asked to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.

Jan. 9-13: Carroll Street Multiple Lane Closures
As part of Salisbury Public Works’ ongoing effort to keep the public informed of improvements within the City of Salisbury, please be advised that a contractor working for Peninsula Regional Medical Center will close all but one westbound lane of Carroll Street for several days to install a large storm drain manhole and associated piping for the Peninsula Regional Medical Center’s loading dock expansion project. The work will require the closing of the sidewalk, all eastbound lanes, and one westbound travel lane of Carroll Street adjacent to the hospital.  This work is anticipated to start on Friday, Jan. 9. Working hours for the project will be from 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13.  The work is anticipated to be performed 24 hours each day until complete. Only one (1) westbound lane will remain open during this period.  Detours will be in place for vehicular traffic, and flaggers will be on-site to assist motorists. The use of alternate routes during this period is recommended.  Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding while this work is being performed. Should you have any questions or need clarification regarding this project, please contact Peter A. Boyer, Project Manager for A-Del Construction Co., Inc. at 1-302-453-8286 or Jason Miller with Salisbury Public Works at 443-235-0796.
