Militant Atheists Strike Again

BROOKVILLE, Ind. – The Freedom From Religion Foundation in Madison, Wisconsin has discovered a new problem with religion in Franklin County.

The county received a letter this week from the foundation in which it complained about religious messages on the Emergency Services Memorial, which is located on courthouse property.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) in December filed a federal lawsuit against Franklin County over a Nativity scene displayed on the courthouse square. That suit has yet to be resolved, although county commissioners have passed an ordinance with rules and fees for using the square.

In a letter dated Jan. 27, FFRF staff attorney Sam Grover wrote that multiple Franklin County residents have contacted the Wisconsin-based group about the Emergency Services Memorial. The memorial was dedicated in 2010 and contains explicit religious messages, the letter said. The memorial's cost was paid for by donations and local fundraising activities.

County officials declined to comment on the threatened lawsuit.

Grover wrote that it can be quite expensive for a government to ignore its obligation under the Establishment Clause. The city of King, N.C., agreed to pay $500,000 in [FFRF] legal fees as well as the cost of removing a religious flag and statue from its display, Grover said.

A display or memorial is not a declaration of one religion over another by a government ! A declaration would be if in the laws it were to state that you can only practice and worship under one religion and to practice any other would result in a fine, jail or some other form of punishment dealt out at the hands of said governing body. If they don't like it don't look at it, nobody is forcing these people to line up, hold their eyes open and told to recite the writings on the 'wall'!
