Ahead of next month’s legislative session, the state’s largest teacher’s union is holding a conference in Annapolis today, and they have some questions for the governor-elect.
Leaders of the Maryland State Education Association (MSEA) say they are worried Governor-elect Larry Hogan will pursue spending cuts in education to help balance the state budget.
"He has not been very specific," Sean Johnson government relations director for the MSEA told WBAL NewsRadio 1090.

finally! Pollitt let the BOE be untouchable and unaccountable. Its time to crack the hood and see where the money trail leads.
While I support teachers, I do not support their union and I look forward to hearing the Governor's ideas and proposals.

Spending cuts are the only proper way to balance this hosed budget.
The taxpayers have been hosed so heavily for so long - it's time the teat-suckers got some weaning action!
I support education, but they have been getting the bulk of the funds lately. It is time they lived leaner and the other neglected areas get some funding. If Wicomico BOE is an example of how other counties are run, then they need to learn to live on less "perks" and state of the art schools until the rest of the state departments catch up.
Review all of the credit card statements - fire some abusers, charge them with fraud, and demand restitution...from their fat retirement programs!
As a grandparent I recently went to my grandchilds classroom for American Education Week. I was shocked at the lack of resources these teachers have. The union really should be worrying about where the money already allocated to the schools in going.
1:36 the union is holding a rally in annapolis most likely at some high end catered affair. the union only cares about the union
It;s about time. Maybe the teachers and their corrupt union will now learn that the taxpayers do have spending limits and are not cash cows. Perhaps, and hopefully, this union will go away and finally stop slopping at the the public trough.
Well then if they are so worried they need to fork over some of their money. We'll see how worried they are then.
Nothing but a bunch of democrats anyway. This means they are liars and/or are stupid.
I am a teacher, and if we took the money that goes to the union for their high and corrupt salaries we could fund our schools. We could also get rid of the waste instead of promoting it.
I am in no way a supporter of unions or the union greed holding employers hostage demanding higher wage. Education and emergency services (police, fire, EMS) are areas that should not take a major hit. We must ensure our children are educated by providing those resources. Emergency services must be funding to protect our people in the community. Small cuts are completely acceptable however major cuts would have drastic results in my opinion.
Hogan needs to repeal the"fair share" law that MSEA traded our pensions for. For folks that don't understand what agency fees are.......it means everyone will pay the union their hard earned money for NO services. Just like those folks paying dues and getting nothing in return.
624 is typing from yet another catered dinner Union meeting.
God Bless Larry!
