'Mindfulness' Helps Teens Cope with Stress, Anxiety

As the morning school bell rings and students rush through crowded corridors, teenagers in one Portland, Oregon classroom settle onto mats and meditation pillows. They fall silent after the teacher taps a Tibetan “singing bowl.”

“Allow yourself to settle into the experience of being here, in this moment,” teacher Caverly Morgan tells two dozen students at Wilson High School.

The students are enrolled in a for-credit, year-long mindfulness class meant to ease youth anxiety and depression and to prevent violence. For 90 minutes, three days a week, they practice a mix of yoga, sitting and walking meditation, visualization techniques, deep breathing, journaling and non-judgmental listening.

Yoga is the practice of Hindu spiritual poses to gods. I would be in my children's school in a second if they were asked to do yoga. Most people don't realize how spiritually dangerous yoga is. Once again the devil takes something evil and makes it look normal or beneficial (exercise).

Our children need all the coping skills they can learn in this society. Practicing mindfulness is an effective, evidence-based method for stress reduction.

more progressive BS. those idiots just fall for all that crap its unreal how stupid the people running the public schools are. yeah what if a student decides they take comfort in prayer will they get kicked out and sent to a re- education camp? the parents are stupid too if they put up with that crap.
