The traditional 100-mile Assateague century offers a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean and a glimpse of the wild ponies, while the 100-mile Snow Hill century takes cyclists through a quaint Worcester County town, with galleries and beautiful homes. A 65-mile Princess Anne metric route winds through Somerset County.
This year’s rest stops include Washington High School, Nassawango Golf Course, Cypress and Byrd parks, and the Powellville VFW, where riders enjoy pie à la mode before their final leg.

Our experience with these bikers is they have no respect for the cars and other vehicles on the road. It's no wonder there are always bicyclists getting hurt or killed on the local roads. Be safe out there, and bikers, show some respect for the other vehicles on the roads.
I hope everyone along that route flys and American Flag - show the red, white and blue.

The need for courtesy is not limited to cyclists. Plenty of drivers could also stand a refresher on the rules of the road.
As far as the taxes: 1) most cyclists also own motor vehicles and therefore pay the same fees you pay. 2) fees paid by motor vehicle owners don't actually come close to covering the cost of road maintenance. They are subsidized by other taxes and government programs.

So you're saying that you 'get a little extra' for your fees, correct? Then can we assume that you wouldn't be opposed to registering and tagging your bicycle and 'paying a little extra' for that, as the state likes to put it, privilege? And, you wouldn't be opposed to carrying insurance to cover any accidents you're involved in. Such as the one in NYC where a bicyclist racing along at breakneck speed hollering "Get out of the way, get out of the way", just before he hit an assemblyman's pedestrian wife leaving her brain dead. I'm assuming that, being a bicycling enthusiast, you heard about that. Quite honestly I hope they hang the egocentric POS. You cyclists are leaches, no different then the SNAP and Welfare crowd.

1:24 I agree, and for the most part, have no issue with cyclists. However, during the Seagull Century, they like to ride 10+ deep when they're on back roads, with lots of turns and the threat of deer, and other wildlife. I keep a safe distance, I honk to let them know I'm coming up behind them, and they give you the over the shoulder look, then nothing...keep on peddling. That is a lack of respect for motorists who are trying to be safe and do the right thing. They're 90% smug people who don't care what they're blocking, or how DANGEROUS they are making travel for others. And, if something were to happen, the motorists would be at fault, even if the cyclists rides into your car. They want equal use of the road, without equal responsibility.
Isn't the gas tax that we pay what takes care of the roads? Remind me again how much gas these bikes use?
This event sucks Joe. We as citizens lose two-fold hosting this so-called sporting event. WE LOSE MONEY. We pay every law enforcement officer from every agency in both counties, to direct traffic at every dirt road from here to the water for hours on end. 95% of the "athletes" are headed back accross the bridge in their foreign hybrids well before dinner. They are not staying here and/or spending any money here. Secondly the inconvenience and unappreciated attitudes of these "athletes", is pathetic. I'm driving on a road I travel everyday attempting to WORK. NOT PLAY!! Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for you, to be fortunate enough to enjoy your free time, to chase your inspired athletic achievements. I can even understand stopping cars for the top 100 riders. DEAREST GESTAPO KOPS, DO NOT!!! make me wait to let the fat, overweight, loser-a$$ lollygaggers SLOWLY peddle accross my path at every intersetion in this God-forsaken town. These pathetic excuses for couch potatoes are HOURS from being competitive. Make THEM wait on me. I know they are in a hurry to get back to their organic vegan restaurant haunts across the water. Honestly, riding a bicycle is a wonderful way to see and appreciate the land God has given us. It is a good time to stop and smell the roses and be thankful for how lucky we are to be put on this planet.
Sounds like a fun event in a beautiful part of the country.... minus a few locals that are a bit rude and entitled. I bet most folks in the community do not fit the east cost stereotype. Most that posted here already, unfortunately do.

The "gas tax" hardly pays for any highway or road maintenance, most of it is earmarked for other spending. The majority of the money that pays for roads and infrastructure comes from general taxes that everyone who earns an income and pays taxes contributes to. Even those who ride bikes.Try complaining to your state reps if you don't like it.
As far as the cops and EMT who staff the ride...their salaries are paid directly from the rider's entry fees. They are working "paid overtime" and not their regular hours, so if you don't like it, then maybe you can cover their costs...since they decided to make a few more bucks and work the hours. Not a dollar of your taxes covers that.
