Kevin Ward Jr., 20, died from injuries suffered in the incident, which occurred Saturday night at the Empire Super Sprints series event at the Canandaigua Motorsports Park.
The track is about a two-hour drive from Watkins Glen International race track, where Stewart had been scheduled to race in a NASCAR event Sunday.

The fact that people are trying to make it look like he tried to hit his is a complete joke. Of course he hit the gas when the kid jumped i front o the car you can see he tried to take the car to the left to avoid him and it didn't happen. I feel bad for the kids family but he made the choice to get out of the car and charge and jump in front of a race car. What did he think would happen? Other drivers could of been killed or injured as well. I expect they will pass some new rules against getting out of your car unless its on fire or wrecked, there is a pit area for that kind of stuff. I am not a NASCAR fan but i have been through defensive and offensive driving schools when I was in the military and this is my honest opion
Its not like Tony could stop on a dime to avoid the kid..slick dirt track..and correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the type of race car that has to be moving in order for it to run in other words there is no neutral????
I think instead of this being described as "Tony Steward Hits, Kills Driver" something more accurate is in order.
Some like Kevin Ward Jr decided to be confrontational in a high risk atmosphere and got himself killed over it.

That would seem to indicate you have non-honest opinions too.
Steward is a hot head and was trying to bump the guy and killed him. Stewarts career is over.
A dark active racetrack is not a pedestrian zone, especially when you are dressed in all black. If I were Tony, I'd be looking at the car area to see if the driver got out okay when I went by on the caution lap. He probably never saw him until two feet away. He certainly wasn't expecting him to be walking 2/3 of the way down the racetrack.
Condolences to all involved and affected by this disaster. This is truly a horrible accident.
I would not want to be Tony now.5:45 is more than likely correct.If there is video coverage of this incident it will be played endlessly in the coming days.Any debate whatsoever as to whether he intentionally did this or whether it was an accident will greatly damage or end his career.
Oh u seem to know soooo much more than the witnesses the drivers the teams the police agencies and the da, because your statements are what is not being reported. Just another hater. It is a tragic accident. Young man let his emotions get the best of him and it caused him his life. Sad.
I'm a race fan but I won't comment until all the facts are in.Say a prayer for the Ward family.
I can't bring myself to watch the video. I have heard several differnt sides from different people on what happened. Only Tony knows if he did it on purpose or not. The only thing that sticks in my mind is all the times Tony has lost his cool on the track. Those past times might come back to bite him in this case.
5:45PM You are exactly right! Stewart was showboating trying to 'buzz' or throw dirt on the kid and he ended up killing him instead. Stewart's temper has finally caught up with him.

That would be fine with me, but not guns.
The man killed is directly responsible for his own death. This is not debatable. He should have immediately upon exiting the vehicle exited the track.
There is no defending his actions. He not only put himself in danger (which resulted in his death) but put the other drivers in danger.
It's ridiculous to blame this on Stewart. The hothead was the kid killed. What he did was asinine. He thought he would be confrontational and it ended up killing him.
6:38 i could not have said it better. I don't care at all for stewart, but saying his career is over is laughable. What the kid did was one of the most foolish things I've ever seen a person do, and he paid a terrible price for being so hot headed.
