KENNEDYVILLE — No-till, aerial spraying, GMOs, growth hormones — those were some of the agricultural buzzwords thrown around at a panel discussion hosted by the Sassafras River Association Thursday, Aug. 21.
Joining Sassafras Riverkeeper Emmett Duke at Shrewsbury Parish Church near Kennedyville were farmers Trey Hill, Judy Gifford, Alan Davis and Sean Jones. Raymond Forney, of DuPont Crop Protection; Wayne Gilchrest, director of the Sassafras Environmental Education Center; and Josh Thompson, the SRA’s agricultural outreach coordinator, also participated in the discussion.
Cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries continues to be a challenge. Discussions of how best to reduce the runoff of nitrogen, phosphorus and sediment into the Bay often involve additional regulations on farmers.
