Shiva Dayani's bad decision dramatically changed the course of her life.
When Dayani was 17, she was a drug addict.
"Me and two other people decided to rob some drug dealers for some drugs. And the robbery went wrong and somebody died," she says from inside Jessup Women's Correctional Facility in Maryland.
"I got 45 years."

And you should serve every one of those 45 years.
"And the robbery went wrong and somebody died"

Think of it this way.....she saved the tax payers a bunch of money by taking out a drug dealer.
Just like I hear people all the time that they "caught a charge"....wow--lucky I haven't run into one of these charges running wild out there!
what a bunch of vicious idiots you are. she was 17. if she is able to turn her life around and become a productive citizen she should be given the opportunity. what purpose does it serve to waste her entire life in jail? call me what you want, I see it differently. apparently her poor home life added to her lack of better judgement. maybe her parents should be serving time with her.
nowhere in the article did it state that she was the murderer.
I worked as a correctional officer in a Maryland prison. Every inmate in there is innocent if you ask them. But I still say if you do the crime you need to do the time.
7:33-"her poor home life?" I don't believe her home life was poor. FYI-She not only shot the victim in the face, but plunged a knife though the back of another person, puncturing his lung.

Does that fact that she was 17 make the family members of the person who was killed feel any better? She was certainly old enough to know better, and I bet nobody put a gun to her head and made her become a drug addict. I had a lot of bad things happen to me when I was growing up, but I decided to not do drugs, commit crimes etc. She made the choices, she has to pay the price. Yes, I hope she turns her life around...at least she has the chance and choice to do so...the person that was killed has NO chance or choice.

I work with parole and probation--once they get released they usually are still innocent, but some admit they "screwed up". Getting through parole or probation is the interesting part...you certainly see a lot that return to prison on violations... some never learn, or choose NOT to learn.
hell they don't lock up politicians for breaking the law. how many deaths is Obama responsible for? maybe he ought to be doing time.
Unfortunately Maryland does not have the death penalty.. that is what she gave the person who 'died'.

At the time the death penalty was still in effect and Dayani was eligible for it. This is why she pled guilty. She received the longest sentence out of her 2 co-defendants, because it was she who pulled the trigger, shattering the victims face which ultimately lead to his death. She also used a knife on another victim who sustained a serious but non life threatening injury. Both weapons the group brought with them which is a factor for premeditation. Premeditation ='s 1st Degree Murder, which allowed the State to apply the death penalty in this case.
Nothing in her familial background (upper middle class Islamic moderate, Iranian expats) would make her a prime candidate so to speak for drug abuse much less murder. She had planned on becoming a doctor and could have before heroin addiction got a grip on her.
She was diagnosed with several addictions and narcissistic personality disorder by experts hired by her defense. Initially she was sentenced to a stay at Patuxent Institute Youth program due to her age and her personality disorder. Narcissism doesn't go over well in the adult prison system.
She did the crime now she has to do the time. It is still sad however that such a young life is wasted.
When I was in high school we took a trip to the prison in Jessup. Scared the heck out of many people. I wonder if they still allow those trips. They should maybe it would scare them enough so they won't want to end up there.
No they don't all say that. not all punishmentso fit the crime.
That is a very closed minded response. I'm sorry you feel that way. It's unfortunate you don't take the time to understand the circumstances.
The system is also not set up for returning citizens to have a throbbing chance. Yds, some don't learn, but even those that do have a hard way to go.
No she didn't.. I was in county jail with this girl when she was first arrested she was acting big and bad. Telling people Im in on a murder beef.. I wad in county before she got those 45 years. She was talk in shit with Co defendants Chelsea simmers and she hung out in the jail with another murderer Kelly Bradshaw. Who killed her husband
She also plead guilty. This girl is gross...she had no remorse....
Shiva shot him in the face and stabbed the other dude.
