Wicomico County Judge with a Real “Record” in Court
This appears in today’s Daily Times (to its credit) in an article about the candidates for the Circuit Court judgeship: “While he was in college more than 20 years ago, Sarbanes received a probation before judgment disposition for a gambling-related charge, and it was expunged from his record.”
Now a “PBJ” is not an actual conviction, but it’s almost that, however, and not an acquittal of the crime charged.
The article also quotes Mr. Sarbanes that he has not “tried to hide” the matter, which does not appear on his campaign website or in his mailings to voters. They don’t know the details of the “gambling-related charge” or how it came to be “expunged,” so that it does not appear in the State’s online database of court cases. And, despite its disclosure of that criminal case, the Daily Times article does not mention the other and more recent cases against Sarbanes for debt, including foreclosure, which he has also failed to mention.
While “hide” may not be correct, deliberate nondisclosure to the voters is certainly the correct term to describe Sarbanes’ campaign conduct about his record as a defendant in both criminal and other cases.

What really frosts my cookies is "Sarbanes said, 'based on my judicial experience, my judicial clerkships, my time in private practice, my temperament, that I am by far the better qualified candidate and should keep my seat.'"
Wow.... just wow.
Anyone appointed by O'Malley will not get my vote.
Ditto 6:50
It's a smokescreen and a misdirection play. Don't be fooled.
By mentioning his PBJ he, his supporters and The Daily Times can all pretend to have addressed his court time as a Defendant!
So when a citizen says,"Hey, heard this judgejimmy character has been in court as a defendant. What's that all about?" his fan boys and girls can say "Oh, that was in the newspaper. Old news from way back. Wasn't convicted of anything and record erased" with a straight face while keeping their fingers crossed behind their backs.
The Daily Times finds another way to stoop to a new low by deliberately failing to address and report on judgejimmy's multiple subsequent run-ins with the law. They are very germane to his 'appointment' and potential retention.
IIRC judges currently get $149K per year. A 15 year term at that rate equals $2.235 million dollars in total pay. Anybody except judgejimmy think he's worth that muc?
The Daily Times has just signed on as a member of the foist jimmy on the citizens conspiracy.
Same old Gannett; same old Daily Times! Nameplates change at the desks there but slimy, sloppy, slipshod journalism remains its stock in trade!
My Fellow Wicomico Voters:
On Tuesday we can correct O'Malley's mistake (and attempt to get a presidential endorsement for "Judge Jimmie's" uncle Paul).
Vote for M. J. Caldwell -- he's the more qualified by an Eastern Shore mile.
This race is beginning to closely resemble the Pagano candidacy against Joe Holloway.
Pagano at least had the decency to withdraw -- are you listening Jimmie-boy?
How could he possibly be "endorsed" by the state bar association?
What happened in that foreclosure case?
I can't vote for MJ on Tuesday, I voted for him on Thursday!
M.J. Caldwell has our votes...I pray he wins.
Why would he withdraw? It is his job. If he keeps it, so be it. If not, well, that's America.
My plan also is to vote for MJ. Just wish this interesting information would have made it out earlier about Sarbanes past and now the foreclosure issue. Can't believe why anyone would want him to continue in the seat, He must be concerned about his career if he doesn't wins?
Nor did the DT article discuss the huge amount of money that has been given to Sarbanes by his family and relatives for his campaign, or how he and MJ fared in the rating by the local bar association, in which Caldwell was much the better in their opinion.
Personally, I was raised just a few doors up the road from Sarbanes home on Old Ocean City Road. That family didn't impress then, and/or, now. Back then when Paul Sarbanes ran for Senator, they plead the 'Greek Immigrant' story trying to conger up the imagination that they suffered and endured hardship. That was the farthest thing from the truth. Fact is, it was a slap in the face to our eastern shore citizens.
I AM VOTING FOR MJ CALDWELL AND I ENCOURAGE ALL RED BLOODED EASTERN SHORE PEOPLE TO DO THE SAME.
Another unqualified Democrat at the public trough.
Now is the time to correct O'Malley's mistake.
Vote for M. J. Caldwell!
He is a good honest family man. Leave the past behind him and let him move forward. He deserves his position, give him a chance... My family stands behind him 100%. Leigh
Response to 8:50 Post - Leave the past behind and let him move forward.
Don't think so - at least not on my dime. The entire Sarbanes family have been feeding on the public dole for so long that they've lost touch with reality. I to am voting for Melvin Caldwell.
Joe -- this info is important for the primary on Tuesday -- please post this one above the "week in review" stuff.
This post should be on top today and tomorrow.
Just saw that Barrie Tilghman is working for Sarbanes -- she and Ron Pagano both support him -- what's that tell you?
Another Sarbanes in the Judgeship is like a Fox in the hen house. I'm not going to vote for Sarbanes either. If the public is truly concerned about their well being, they'll try and stir clear of any Sarbanes - period.
Maybe he was taking bets on whether he would pass the BAR exam!
