"On Thursday, a student invited me to prom and gave me a flower while I was giving a presentation in York, Pennsylvania.
"I was flattered by the gesture although I am unfortunately unable to attend due to my travel schedule. I later learned of the disciplinary action taken and reached out to the school in hopes that they will reconsider their decision.
"Meeting and interacting with students across the country has been an important and rewarding part of my year as Miss America. I always encourage students to follow their dreams through education, and I'm inspired daily by the enthusiasm and aspirations of the bright young adults I have the pleasure of meeting through my travels."

Suspended under the well-known and wildly cheered "Zero Tolerance" policy regarding humor and big ideas.
He was suspended because school officials found out what he planned to do and told him not to do it. He did it anyway. If this kid doesn't have to do what administrators say, then no kid should have to.
It was not a spontaneous impulse. He talked a lot about his plan and administrators heard about it. They told him not to invite her. Who knows why he chose not to do as he was told, but he was suspended for refusal to follow instructions of an administrator, not for being humorous.
What the hell has happened to our schools? Are all of our educators educated beyond their intelligence?
