Very sad that the Mayor and council continues to fund a department of over 60 paid firemen when we have volunteers that can handle the calls. These medical assist calls are only for job security. What is also very sad is that fact that the County Executive and County Council continues to pay the city for these unnecessary calls in the County. Separate EMS into a 3rd service agency and you will see a tremendous savings to tax payers when the volunteers handle the fire calls. Look just next door to Dorchester County and you will see the EMS is done as a third service. Same for Talbot, Caroline, Kent and Queen Anne Counties. Salisbury and Wicomico is much bigger and should be handled separately.

What ever happened to the study that was going to be done?

More Job Security

Salisbury Fire Department

The Salisbury Fire Department has implemented Automatic Medical Assists for all EMS calls in its district during the current weather event. This is done to provide assistance in the form of extra personnel/apparatus to EMS crews responding to calls for service. Stretchers do not traverse snow well and it becomes dangerous for both civilian and sworn personnel to move patients in snow and icy conditions. We do this for the safety of everyone involved.

Please be aware that you may see 4x4 utility vehicles, engines, aerials, or rescue apparatus (based on available staffing levels) out assisting EMS units throughout this weather event.
