Ocean City Introduces ‘Vacation Day’ Marketing Campaign

OCEAN CITY – Ocean City’s new television commercials for the 2014 summer season have been under wraps for the past several months but were debuted to the local business community this week.

“They were giddy,” Council Secretary Mary Knight said of the business community’s reaction.

Tourism Director Donna Abbott presented the spots to the Mayor and City Council during Monday evening’s legislative meeting for the public to see.

“We previewed them today at the Season Kickoff Meeting with members of the business community, which was very well attended. They [commercials] were very well received. There was a lot of excitement with applause and laughter, all very favorable, so we are very excited about this year’s campaign,” Abbott said.

Sad part is we use to love going to the Ocean for a week during the summer time. But anymore the prices are so dang high with all the costs. Travel / Tolls / Hotel / Eating and any other money you will spend there. That is almost as cheap as going to somewhere exotic out of the country on a all inclusive as we have done in the past years and everything is included other than extra spending money. It was a easy choice to keep going to the same Ocean City every year or going somewhere different and seeing exotic beaches and places every year was a no brainer.
And it seems that the Ocean City is getting dirtier every year and crime seems to be on the uptick there every year and it is to the point it scares you to go there anymore.

Much like Salisbury, OC was a great in the 70's and 80's. Maybe I'm just an old fuddy duddy, but there was time when you could go to OC, let the kids roam the boardwalk and ride the rides/play skee ball and get hopped up on caramel popcorn without worrying about their safety. Today, OC is a ghetto most of the year and I'm not being racist by saying ghetto, the crowd is a mix all of all races with no class. Maybe it is a socio-economic issue. There are beach resorts that cater to the upper middle class/ wealthy and due to the cost of the rentals do not have the issues that OC has.

Ocean City management hasn't figured out how to communicate with their visitors outside of a court room. Why doesn't the Council spend time on the boardwalk and public transit system in order to reach out to the visitor rather than some TV commercial aired hundreds of miles away to people who just may never visit?
