N.J. Teen Sues Parents, Claims They Kicked Her Out

A bitter family battle was playing out in a New Jersey courtroom Monday, as an 18-year-old student has sued her parents claiming they kicked her out and demanded she pay for her own college education.

As CBS New York's Christine Sloan reported, Rachel Canning's parents could not believe it.

"We're being sued by our child," said Sean Canning, a former police chief in Lincoln Park, N.J. "I'm dumbfounded, so is my wife, so are my other daughters."

There are a lot of parents who wish they had not committed themselves to paying for their kids college education.CBS did a show about it a while back.Even parents who co signed were left destitute. Are their lawyers who will actually take this case?

Court hearings were today and in NJ parents can be held liable for college education expenses especially if divorced.

5:10 is a good example of why you should not marry a close relative and have children. Pedestrians have the right of way. It's the law. If you can, please read the article. This is an honor roll student at a private catholic HS school and received a scholarship to attend a university. What have you or your offspring accomplished by the age of 18?

Pedestrians do NOT always have the right of way. They just can't walk out into the road because there is a crosswalk. Which one of your relatives did you marry?

Go ahead and hit one then….see who ends up paying!

Sure let me just go out there and hit someone to prove a point. What a stupid comment. Remember before you walk out in front of a vehicle that you might be right......DEAD RIGHT!

7:34 Yeah, that and liberal ideology has invaded Catholic school too!
Blue ribbons for EVERYONE because you're all so special and deserving!
We don't want to hurt your feelings and tell you the truth that you suck at running the 100 yard dash, or you were dead last in the math challenge... We are ALL equal!
Ok, ok...
If she wears her little Catholic school girl uniform to bed at night, I'll pay for her college!
