Md. Schools Superintendent Supports Delay Of Teacher Evaluations Based On Common Core Tests

Maryland’s superintendent of schools told lawmakers Wednesday that she supports legislation that would delay evaluating teachers on new Common Core student assessments for two years until the 2016-2017 school year.

Maryland was supposed to have fully implemented the curriculum based on Common Core standards this school year. Part of the standards requires annual teacher evaluations to be based on standardized student test scores.

But teachers, parents and legislators argue that schools haven’t had adequate time to adjust to the program, which is still underway. Legislation introduced by Sen. Nancy King, D-Montgomery, a former school board member, would give teachers a reprieve until 2016.

So glad I decided not to take teaching up as a second career mode...

Teachers don't teach anymore. Modern day "teaching" is nothing more than memorizing for "the test." Teaching how to think is a thing of the past. This is why US public school students are so behind. Currently jobs that require thinking skills such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics are being filled by foreign graduates.

If you are going to delay the teacher evaluation, then delay the crap they are teaching. It is terrible and pathetic.
We are sooooo far behind other countries and this CC will not help.

Why do teachers get a reprieve? The students have not and grades are reflecting the poor standards set forth in CC. Why should teachers not be held accountable. CC should not be implemented if teachers are not proficient! So the liberals just delay the measurement assessment for teachers and let the children suffer! That is criminal!
