Businesses close and OPEN everyday, what is your point? Maybe YOU are the problem Albero. All you do is whine, cry, bitch and moan about everything. You must be one miserable man, get a life.

Either you are the local economic developer employed by the County, in which case you are a failure, or you one of the one of the administrations henchmen.
The last time I checked we were still a democracy, although that to is changing fast, but as long as we still have some rights I wouldn't chastise Joe for being the Editor-in-chief of our areas MSM. That's his job to report, and I might add he is doing better than any of the others. So my suggestion to you is for you to get a life, otherwise, leave if you don't like the company.

I can tell you this. I know for a fact businesses locally are closing down because the Obama Administration and Congress are taxing small businesses right out of business and the final straw is the threat of increasing the minimum wage.
We have NUMEROUS businesses right on the very edge of closing their doors. Here's the kicker. You don't see the likes of Jim Ireton or even Rick Pollitt supporting these businesses, unless there's alcohol involved in one case.
As for the Governor, well, Wicomico County is a step child and a red headed one at that. Ireton wants to VOLUNTEER to pay a Rain Tax and again that will kill small businesses.
These fines and fees are somewhat acceptable when it comes to Annapolis, Rockville and other municipalities surrounding D.C.
The Eastern Shore must be treated differently and exclusively. Open your eyes people, seriously.
So if MY business minded way of thinking is wrong, well, I guess I am the problem.

I just did my taxes today since it was a good day to stay home and still get something done. Wicomico's piggy back tax is the same rate as Prince Georges county and Baltimore county. The eastern shore is done....decades of poor management has caught up to the shore. If any of you think this all just happened you are clueless. It took along time for mess and now it's way too late to fix. The shores reputation speaks for itself. The companies that are leving see the writing on the wall.... And the companies looking for a new home are going south. Good weather, progressive thinking, culture, the arts. Florida for example has no state income tax and companies are flocking to it. The shore has lost its charm, and has nothing left.
I have 2 neighbors that have moved in the past 6 months. Both said "Maryland Sucks" , but this county is unbearable . Both have moved to Somerset.

I to am doing my taxes today as I was snowed-in, and I noticed that Wicomico went from 3.1% to 3.2% effective just a few weeks ago. As far as I can tell, Wicomico is pegged at the HIGHEST PIGGY BACK TAX rate in the entire State of Maryland.
Not all governments fault. Some people don't make the best decisions...
Yawwwn. Sureee it's Obama, Joe. It's just Salisbury. There is a reason why we have Food Lions and not a Wegmans or Harris Teeter. They just wouldn't survive here. You think you have all the answers but your biased views are your downfall. Being positive is not a strong point of yours. Reason I couldn't vote for you. Had you won, I wouldn't cry everyday. What kind of services are they providing, hookers for the good old boys? Got a $527 refund from the fed, owe the state $96?

I was born and raised in Wicomico County but I can assure you of one thing, I will be moving within the next 1 1/2 years and I won't be keeping a home here too. Escaping the rath is what I consider it.

Hey Dingbat, are you suggesting it's Joe's fault the business is closing? It sounds as you are one of those Gay Mayor Lovers or Extremelly Naive Optimist. So that explains it, you are the one thats Miserable.
I am a "come here", who happened to move here right after Wi. Co. residents voted in the revenue cap. My neighbor, a hard-working farmer whose family has been here for many generations, says the cap was a huge mistake and the cause of many of the county's problems since then. He voted for it, and regrets it greatly. You can't keep and attract good businesses if you cannot keep and attract good people to live here, and when you see how poorly paid our teachers, police and firefighters are, how we have little money for repairs and improvements of infrastructure, many good, smart people opt to live somewhere where the citizens support the community with their dollars.
7:52 I have to disagree. The big mistake we voters made was voting for a county executive form of government, when as we now know we were doing better under the leadership of the county council without another bloated layer of bureaucracy under a county executive.
The revenue cap prevented developers and others from paying high taxes during the times they were making huge profits. The rest of us went along.
Look at numbers and facts. Look at the population of Wicomico County and think of that number as it relates to the services that must be provided. Look at populations of other counties and their population and tell me one that has a lower tax per capita as Wicomico County. Wicomico County has 100K people in it. Worcester County has half the population with a budget half again as big. For the population of the county, the budget is fairly small. The county property tax rate is lower than it was in 2008. Cecil County is a good example. The population of Cecil County is nearly identical to that of Wicomico County, yet Wicomico Counties property tax rate is 9 cents lower and their personal property tax is 35 cents lower. Cecil County operating budget is approximately 167.7 million and Wicomico Counties is 116.6 million. Tell me how we are so overtaxed and where all this "fat" is? Looks to me like Wicomico is doing a pretty good job. Their operating budget is 50 million dollars less than Cecil County with the same population.
Why don't some of you take the time to educate yourselves on the cost of doing business and realize that this county is actually doing a pretty good job. How is the county supposed to provide good roads and schools with a budget this thin? If you guys want to get all bent out of shape, why don't you spend you energy screaming at the state for all the cuts they have made to us with money that is ours.
