I live in Worcester County, not Wicomico but I'm curious about procedures there. When our residents call for an ambulance they get an ambulance, a driver and at least one paramedic. We never get a fire truck unless there is a fire or car wreck involved. Do ambulances in Salisbury carry a paramedic or are the medical personnel just allowed to ride in fire trucks?

In Salisbury there is usually one paramedic on the ambulance. The Salisbury Fire Department tries to respond on all ambulance calls in Salisbury to try and justify the overabundance of unneeded paid firemen. You are correct that Worcester County doesn't send fire trucks on ambulance calls. The fire departments are all volunteer and they prove that fire trucks are not needed on every ambulance call. The volunteer fire departments are not trying to justify paid firemen.
8:40.
Yes here in Salisbury, all of us medics ride only the fire trucks. The ambulances only have drivers. This saves the city so much money. If it is just a call for something a band aide can handle, the drivers go out and usher them off to the hospital. However if it is a more serious call then we hope on the fire truck and meet the drivers there to render emergency care to the patient. Makes more sense this way. All fire departments should go this way, it saves money.

Somehow I fail to see the logic (if there is any) in your comment.
OK, so only a driver in the ambulance...Now if someone needs to be transported we send a big friggin' fire truck??? Please help us out here! Maybe, just maybe this was sarcasm?
So what's with self-dispatch? In Worcester we have a 911 call center and dispatcher who keeps track of status and location of the units and tells them where to go. Does Wicomico not have a central control? Or do they and just not know where everybody is at all times?
(45, We do have Central, but they are only there to answer/ broadcast the 911 calls as they come in. When the call gets on the radio, it's Green Flag time for anyone who thinks they can win the race to the scene. Central helps by advising the drivers which roads are blocked by construction so all the trucks and ambulances have an equal chance. They also advise the crews as to which restaurant everyone is to meet at after the patient is transported.
Isn't that how your Central works?
Uh, no. Here nobody goes anywhere until Central Alarm tells them to. How else can they keep track of where the units are?
941. There are two drivers on the ambulances to usher the sick. When it sounds like a more serious call the big fire trucks that are staffed with the medics go to provide the care needed. We have to self dispatch to be able to get the personnel to the scene.
