ANNAPOLIS, MD (January 6, 2014) -- Tonight, Governor O'Malley issued the following statement upon learning of the death of Bishop Lee Robinson, Baltimore city's first black police commissioner, and former state secretary of public safety and juvenile justice:
"On behalf a very grateful State, I would like to express our deepest condolences to the family of Bishop Lee Robinson. Over the course of his 50-year law enforcement career, Secretary Robinson gave back ceaselessly to our city and our State. From the halls of the State house in Annapolis, to the offices of our State's top public safety agencies to the classrooms of the University of Baltimore, Mr. Robinson's perseverance and grit inspired many. Tonight, our city grieves the loss one of her staunchest guardians and our State mourns the loss of one its most dedicated servants."
