Police: Distracted Diving Caused Bay Bridge Crash

A recent report is revealing that distracted driving caused a crash on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in July. The accident sent a car falling 27 feet into the water.

The report is apart of the Maryland Transportation Authority Police investigation. Authorities released it Thursday.

The document indicates that on July 19th, the driver of a tractor-trailer was looking at his driver's side mirror due to flashing lights behind him when he suddenly drove into a Chrysler Sebring sedan.

This is an extremely dangerous bridge. I would whether take Rt 331 to Annapolis then drive across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge

Now, looking in your rearview mirror is "distracted driving"? One can already assume another police military-like "campaign" to find people reading billboards, checking their mirrors, and looking down at their speedometer. Complete, of course, with the necessary fines. Don't laugh. Cop commanders are already drooling at the unlimited possibilities here...."if we can save just one life...."

Well if flashing lights caused a distraction I think all police, fire and tow trucks must be banned.

Well technically they are right. CV drivers are supposed to keep their eyes moving. They are supposed to check their mirrors, front, as well as gauges, several times a minute.

I still would like to know why traffic was stopped and for how long. Or how long this guy was driving professionally.

You way to close to the car in front of you if you cannot glance st a mirror without ramming the car in front of you.

Drive the speed limit to avoid mishaps. Your their to cross over the bridge. Not call every body on your cheap Obama cell phone when get a signal. But the poor guy trying to work and make some money for his family is about to get schooled.
It's about time for tractor trailers to start crossing all bridges side by side 10mph for safety sake.
