The request comes from the AAA Mid Atlantic.
The automotive club wants federal safety authorities to take another look with an eye toward whether those side barriers are sturdy enough...and high enough...to prevent the kind of accident that happened this past weekend.
A car plunged about 40 feet into the water in an accident when it was rear ended and catapulted over the side.

I have been saying for years the barriers are NOT High Enough.
Hopefully we can erect something to keep Eastern Shore people on their side and the rest of us can go about living uninterrupted in the civilized world.
There's been what, 4 vehicles off the side of that bridge in 40 years?
How many accidents have been at Walston Switch, Tilghman Road or White Lowe Road and Rt 50 in just the past year?
It's a stupid bridge not a carnival ride.

How about to tell all those "hungry beach goers" its Illegal To Be Changing Lanes on the Bridge, and Totally Irresponsible and Stupid To Do It In Front of Tractor Trailer. If the walls were higher we may have more vehicles involved in the crash and more innocent victims.
How about each span is one way.... any moron can figure out two way on either span is asking for a disaster..... but god forbid you make the tourist morons wait to cross the damn bridge.
This last one is someone who got rear ended by a tractor trailer going "at full speed". My question is, WTF were you stopping for? Scared? Sounds like you caused your own "accident"!

I drive this bridge every day you would be amazed at the idiots who just can not seem to maintain a reasonable speed. they slow way down and cause unbelievable backups. Most are nothing more than tourist heading to the beach.
Anyone get the tag number of the car pushed over? Probably from PA or the western shore. Maybe the trucker just got tired of dealing with the morons!
I see these idiots at assateague stopping in the middle of the road to look at a pony. Now I ask you where in the world is it acceptable practice to stop in the middle of a highway to look at an animal? Idiots!
maybe the increase in accidents on the bay bridge has to do with increased texting? seems like since the mass use of cell phones, accidents everywhere have increased.
Also, if this had happened on the 2 way span, it would have been head on, and a DOA. Stop the 2 way traffic for starters. Then worry about the barriers.
