Sheriff Mason Requests Central Booking To Save Time And Money

The deputies of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office could get more work done if they did not have to spend so much time with paperwork after arresting suspects, Sheriff Reggie Mason told the Worcester County Commissioners on Tuesday.

“It just takes way, way too long,” he said, as he asked them to “consider central booking for us and the towns.”

When a deputy makes an arrest, the required paperwork and trip to the Sheriff’s Office in Snow Hill can mean that he or she cannot do road patrol or respond to incidents for three hours. Although the deputy would still have to drive to Snow Hill if the requested change is made, that deputy “could be back on the road in 20 minutes” because much of the paperwork would be done by others.

I worked for a department where an intern did the paperwork subsequent to arrest. We just handed her our initial reports and verbally told her what the charges consisted of and she finished it.from time to time during the day she would contact us if she was'nt sure about something, but for the most part the paperwork was done in a very professional manner. Each intern stayed about 1 year. That position came with a modest salary, but it was impressive on a resume for future employment.

Best thing that ever happened to Wicomico county law enforcement.

Central booking would benefit the officers of Worcester County greatly. I worked in central booking in Wicomico and the officers were in and out and back on the street in no time. Which is where we all want them to be. I think we should support his request.

Sounds like a reasonable request.

Go a step further? Have a REAL Central Booking for Salisbuy, the County, and the State. Just have one and SHARE it.

So many loopholes in the law , better have it right the first time. Oh you lawyers , you,ve really screwed up this country.
Paper work , and then some , just shoot em and problem is solved.

Keep it like it is. If they don't like or are too lazy to do the paperwork, maybe that will teach them to only make real arrests and cut down on the frivolous ones.

Where will the money come to fund this? Wo. Co. Is facing 7 million dollar shortfall.....

get your facts straight.. all Law enforcement in Wicomico uses Central Booking. I should know since I work there. The money to fund Central Booking is miniscule compared to the money saved by putting officers back on the street quicker.

Just because you work somewhere does not mean you know what you are doing or are not doing it wrong. And with the general low intelligence of most people in this area, that is not only possible, it is a fact of life on the shore.
