The Maryland, Delaware and District of Columbia Elks Regional Association recently honored Ocean City Police Narcotics Detective Kyle Murray with the “Enrique S. Camarena Award.” Enrique S. Camarena was a DEA agent who lost his life during his crusade to lead Americans to drug-free communities. Each year, the Elks present the Enrique S. Camarena Award to a member of law enforcement who best exemplifies the qualities and principles for which Agent Camarena gave his life.
DFC Murray began his Ocean City Police career as a seasonal police officer for one summer before being hired full time in 2008. He spent two years in the OCPD Patrol Division and was transferred in 2010 into the Criminal Investigation Division’s Narcotics Unit.

Congratulations to DFC Murray. His dedication has meant more to Ocean City than most people realize. Without his superb service fighting the drug situation, the little town of Ocean City could've easily turned into Salisbury.
Ha! A wasted life and a career and a total loss by the taxpayers. He has tried to proverbially put his finger in the dike, and failed miserably. Has his heroic (their words, lol) efforts lowered the price of drugs? How about the availability? Exactly. Him and his ilk give each other awards and plaques, promotions and honors. Here's a clue concerning his impact -- you can leave your house right now and be back with ANYTHING you want in less than an hour. ANYTHING. So, what have your tax dollars got? A guy grows a beard and mustache, hangs out with the happening crowd, parties like its 1999 (yes - he used drugs too, no matter what he says - because he CAN'T say anything else), and lives the Miami Vice life. A cops dream! Then arrests and imprisons people who called him their friend. Then a whole new group takes over and drugs are flowing the next DAY. Talk about a total waste of time and money. Give him another plaque. Build another prison. Lets fight this "war on drugs" ANOTHER 40 years. After all, we are flush with cash and it seems we are finally turning the corner on drug use. Okay. I made that last part up....

My response is this: I (we, anybody) can walk down virtually any street, neighborhood or location in Ocean City, no matter the season, no matter if it's the dead of winter or even when the town is the 2nd most populated city in MD during the summer months, in perfect safety. Any time - any day- any place.
Can you say the same in YOUR city? I challenge you to do that in ANY town that has a normal population of over 6,000 as our town does year 'round.
We don't even lock our doors.
This peace-of-mind, this Quality of Life situation, is directly due to the efforts of people like Murray.
Considering your loser attitude, I'm thinking that you live in an area where you can't do those things I mentioned. That's because your town has lost the "war". Our town hasn't.
Quite a lot of assumptions, 6:05. I guess the young lady that was beaten and raped (no matter the season, huh?) at Seacrets wasn't EXACTLY in O.C., huh? Or the guy that was murdered in the doorway of that bar? Don't lock your doors?? SURE ya don't. I'm positive your insurance company wants to know THAT. The "war"? You mean the one your boy Murray was living, I mean "fighting"? The one that has cost American citizens TRILLIONS and given us the worlds biggest prison inmate population? And yet hasn't stopped anything or even slowed it down? THAT war? The police in Ocean City are state wide famous for their jackboot tactics, their stupidty and lack of legal knowledge, and their disregard for citizens rights. And for being the shortest cops in the state. The OC judiciary is also famous (statewide) for their rubberstamping of the wild west cop tactics in that town. Loser attitude? HA!! Argue the facts -- are drugs wiped out, more expensive, or scarce? Have your taxes done ANYTHING in this respect? The impact of his lifelong efforts? ZERO. Cost to taxpayers? Millions. Plus the cost of plaques and awards.
I apologize. I apologize for thinking that I was (sort of) debating with someone that had some common sense.
Redeem yourself: Give me YOUR alternative to ultra-conservative tactics (as pertained to drugs) in OC - or in any city for that matter.
Berlin (MD) was heading down the tubes until the town got smart and initiated what you call "jackboot tactics" and saved the town. I like to call it "zero tolerance". (Do some homework on NYC.) Today, because of that, Berlin is one of the most upcoming and vibrant towns in the state of MD, and it was well on it's way to becoming a cesspool like Salisbury.
What's your answer....?
Just for the record: The rape was done by an illegal alien (eventually caught and convicted). Not that being illegal is a factor, but the fact is that it was in the height of the season...maybe 300,000 people on a 12-mile sandbar...and there was one - repeat ONE - rape. Not only that NIGHT - but the only one reported ALL season long.
The guy that was "murdered" in the doorway: The two individuals involved were the best of friends. They were 'drinkin' buddies', and they would get into these little arguments after a night of drinking together. I know the case, and let me tell you that there is NO ONE that feels worse than his friend that was responsible for the tragedy. Again: ONE inadvertant "murder" all summer long in a city that has over 300,000 people on average per day.
How many murders and rapes in your town?
Ok....don't skirt the questions. Are drugs in OC gone? Are they as easily available as they were 20 years ago? Has the price skyrocketed? Answers? No, yes, and no. So what effect has this cop had? Other than to play dress-up and do drugs himself? And waste taxpayer money by the truckload? I love the label "ultra conservative tactics", which is a nice way of saying "we don't respect or acknowledge that the PEOPLE have rights under the LAW". You know, against Nazi checkpoints, stop and frisk (innocent people!!) tactics, being innocent until proven guilty, and protection against self-incrimination. Those rights. Under the law. Because you pin a badge on your chest does NOT give you the power of an SS brigade. Or put you ABOVE the law.
