Feds Say Proposed Somerset County, Md., Wind Farm Could Kill Up To 20 Bald Eagles A Year

A proposed wind farm on Maryland’s Eastern Shore could kill up to 20 bald eagles a year, according to federal regulators who have asked the developer to take steps to cut those numbers in a move that could affect developing the electricity source along the Eastern Seaboard.

A wind power group counters that the numbers are based on golden eagle data and are too high.

Adam Cohen, vice president and founder of Pioneer Green Energy, said the Austin, Texas-based company has agreed to raise just 30 of a possible 50 turbines initially to see how often eagle collisions occur. He said the company has cut the size of the project from 210 megawatts to 150.

Progress always infringes on the animal kingdom it seems. The Spotted Owl held up the works, now the Bald Eagle. It would seem that they could adapt,or move on to safer territory.Heartless it may sound, but we as a species also have the right to protect our environment through cleaner energy.

Who's claim is that Delmarva Power? What better way to fight competition then use scare tactic's.
It's a good thing we already have cars and trucks, you would never be allowed to build them now.

Crisfield is prepared to build a windmill soon. How many seagulls is that going to kill? I guess people really don't care about the gulls, but they are beautiful birds. Just something to think about.

If I kill an eagle I go to jail. Some think if a corporation kills eagles with a windmill, it would be perfectly OK. What am I missing?

"It would seem that they could adapt..."
As the dominant species wouldn't that apply to us?
Perhaps we could adapt to changing conditions rather than attempting to manipulate their environment to propagate inefficient, expensive green machines.

Can't you read 9:47, it says it was a federal report. Last time I checked Delmarva power wasn't the federal government.

A Federal Report is just a spin on how the producer wants you to think. Any report, given time, will be reported just the opposite in a few weeks, months or years. All reports and statistics go that route it seems.

Wind power is a waste to taxpayers.

I know a way to keep the libs happy and save the eagles. Build thousands of 2 foot tall wind turbines with the equivalent combined power output of the larger turbines. The waste to taxpayers and efficiency of the devices would be about the same. The eagles would have to go out of their way to kill themselves. No applause, just send money.

Eagles are almost the same as a buzzard.

How much do we borrow from China to build this stuff? Probably 100%. We just can't keep doing this foolish stuff, it's a waste of money and helps no one except the very few involved with building it.
