Pope Benedict XVI will resign at the end of February, the Vatican Press Office tells Fox News.
A spokesman for the Vatican did not have any more information and did not reveal a possible reason for the 85-year-old's resignation.
The last pope to resign was Pope Gregory XII, who stepped down in 1415 in a deal to end the Great Western Schism among competing papal claimants.

Whats the PROBLEM???
BKLN age and health is the stated reason.
If anyone read about Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger before he became Pope Benedict XVI, he told the late Pope John Paul II that he did not want to be pope, but Pope John Paul II nominated and recommended him anyway. He tried to fulfill the late pope's wishes and now he found a way out.
929-With Ratz's being quite old when nominated, it was always thought that he was just a seatwarmer. Hopefully the Church looks towards the future by fully addressing the past. I have a hard time believing my children will attend like I did.
Thank You Pope Benedict.
Can I get one of the hats? They totally rock.
I admire anyone who can resign when they feel it is the right thing to do and the right time
He should be in jail for covering up child rape.
