The new Congress has passed a $9.7 billion bill to help pay flood insurance claims to homeowners, renters and businesses damaged by Superstorm Sandy.
The bill cleared the Senate following passage earlier Friday by the House. It replenishes the National Flood Insurance Program that was due to run out of money next week with some 115,000 Sandy-related claims as well as 5,000 from other floods unresolved.
The late October storm ravaged the coast from North Carolina to Maine, with the worst flooding occurring in New York City and its suburbs, Atlantic City, N.J., along the Connecticut coastline. Votes are planned later this month on another $51 billion aid package. The government already has spent more than $2 billion as part of the emergency response to the storm.

Let's just have the government give every Americam $100,000 and call it a day.
Sad how it became nothing but a pork full of wasteful spendingw
the harris vote was a good one. that bill was loaded with pork and wasn't a good bill for the american people. thank you rep. harris for watching out for us; all of us.
So it will go to pay flood insurance claims. Where did the money go that these people have paid over the years for flood insurance?
Isn't some of the things they want this money for considered the "pork" Obama said he was going to do away with. Seems to me they just sit and wait for a disaster to happen then figure out a way to pay for other things they want.
Congressman Harris and the other upstanding lawmakers who voted against this are being demonized. The ones who should be demonized are the one who held the Sandy victims "hostage" until this bill included their pet projects totally unrelated to the hurricane. It's the shameful democrats again and the MSM is covering for their vile tactics.
In answering 12:11, my guess it all went into a "General Fund" and was wasted. There is no money in the bank anymore. Green dollars you and I deposit become an electronic fairytale immediately. If everything's good, you will get to spend it as you wish, but your every purchase and its location will be tracked. "For your protection".
My lifetime of Social Security payments are no longer in existence. I pay more in car insurance than if I would be making payments on TWO NEW CARS, and my son and I are accident and ticket free! If I have a $1k fender bender, my rates go up $1k for 3 years! (Thanks, State Farm!)
Money is fake, and when the shtf, your bank will be in default and you will own nothing but your body.
Gold may still be of value to other countries...
