Woman Dies From Injuries Sustained In November 17 Crash In Kirkwood


Location: Howell School Road, west of Red Lion Road (St. Rt. 71), Kirkwood, DE

Date and Time of Occurrence: Saturday, November 17, 2012, at 3:44 p.m.

Operators and Vehicles:
Operator 1: James A. Zerillo, 53, of Bear, DE (properly restrained, not injured)
Vehicle 1: 2010 Chevrolet Silverado
Passenger 1: 49-year-old male from Bear, DE (properly restrained, not injured)

Pedestrian: Caroline Morris, 79, of Kirkwood, DE (deceased)

Resume:
Kirkwood - The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a November 17 crash that claimed the life of a Kirkwood woman.

At approximately 3:44 p.m., Caroline Morris, 79, was crossing from the north side to the south side of Howell School Road, immediately west of Red Lion Road (St. Rt. 71). She was struck by a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado that was backing out of the parking lot of the Oceanmart Deli, which is at the intersection of Howell School Road and Red Lion Road. The Silverado was operated by James A. Zerillo, 53, of Bear.

Morris was transported to Christiana Hospital by ambulance, where she remained until she was pronounced dead on December 4. Zerillo and his 49-year-old male passenger were both properly retrained and not injured.

Zerillo was cited at the scene for inattentive driving. The Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident.
