Newspaper Or Nuisance?

Taking a stroll up and down the Downtown Plaza this morning I couldn't help but notice all of the soaking wet newspapers sitting outside just about every business along the way. Clearly the people inside who had them delivered Thursday of last week have no interest in even picking up the trash on the sidewalk. I thought about throwing them away but I didn't want to hear Joe Albero is throwing out Robinson's newspaper.

Its not as if you can even open the bag without getting soaked. Clearly people locally have no interest in this paper but it also begs to question if free weekly papers should be allowed to get thrown onto your property without request.

Mr. Robinson told me he's only had a few phone calls from people asking them not to deliver the paper, so far. Quite frankly I find that hard to believe but it is what it is.

On a personal side, I was somewhat excited about another local paper coming to town in the beginning. However, (truthfully) this paper seems to be like a teenie bopper soft news with a ton of pictures and even more police reports. Mr. Robinson, (as most would expect) has most of his own advertising from his businesses and very little outside advertising.

I give the paper 6 months before he finally gives up and realizes the overhead is way too much and people really aren't into Roller Derby Girl pictures every week. Of course this is just my own personal opinion but it is also backed by the lack of interest in the pictures above.

While they only have a lease until the end of this year, I'd expect they'll either be forced to move into his small building on the Plaza or simply close the doors. You have to at least give the guy credit for trying. Most people I talk to say they'd never support him because of the people he's hired. I did speak to one Daily Times employee who said Sarah Lake would NEVER get hired from ANY Main Stream Media source after the alleged phone spoof. John hired Sarah as his Executive Editor, claiming she's a really nice person. He went on to say that she was in another room when the call took place. Some people are just "Delusional".

They and the Daily Times are plain and simple, littering! No one wants them nor reads them...they BOTH need to stop!

I took a walk around town yesterday...those damn green baggies were everywhere in the street! Are they so lazy that cannot find the upper body strength to at least toss them out on the sidewalks?

I own a business in Salisbury. I would never consider advertising in something so new. When I hear its the greatest paper in town I'll reconsider. In the mean time throwing papers out to people who aren't asking for them is a nuisance. Money is way too tight to throw it away.

Apparently, Robinson has plenty of money to spare or at least more than he knows what to do with, sensibly.

What happened to his indoor skate park. Just another let down to the kids in this community.

I had to call the DT on two occasions to have their mess not thrown in my yard. The first time I called I still kept getting it. The second I had to threaten them with being charged with littering on my property. After the second call I didn't receive any more of their junk in my yard. I would do the same in this instance.

I have visited the paper's site every day since it started. It's sometimes over a week before there are any updates and everything is old news. Better luck to Robinson in his other ventures. Looks like this one is a money pit, with Sarah Lake at the helm they will be out of business soon.

To hire someone who served as less-than-an-intern for the Daily Times, and promote her to executive editor says a lot.

Titles mean nothing!

He is just doing it because the Daily Times does it. Stupid. This is a great waste of money and if papers are hurting this is a place to save money. Please stop the littering.

Maybe the delivery people are being paid by the piece. In our development of about 20 occupied residences, about 40 of these papers were delivered. Some to obviously empty (FOR SALE signs) or under construction residences, two to homes one could not tell if they were occupied, one to the Club House, one to the Office, and several to the street drains. After the wind and rain I picked up about 12 for the dumpster, three are still drying on the edge of my garbage pail. It is really littering, most residents didn't even pick them up, so they ended up in the gutters and road drains.

Sorry but this paper sucks.

I just took a walk up the Plaza again and guess what, the soaking wet papers are still lying there. Considering their staff from the paper is located right on the Plaza, since I know they have been sending in nasty curse word comments, you'd think they'd do the right thing and go out and pick them up. NOPE! Now that's what I would now call littering.

The DT one stopped after I found the delivery person...guess I'll have to start all over again to stop this one. If I wanted the paper, I'd put a box out. Stop trashing my yard!!

John Robinson is a piece of work. I don't know why you hopped in bed with this jerk for your t-shirts Joe.
