HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Maryland State Police say a trooper is recovering from being
hit by a tractor-trailer as he stood along Interstate 70 near Hagerstown.
A spokesman said Friday that Trooper David Avila suffered shoulder, back and leg
injuries. The agency posted a dashboard video clip of the June 14 incident on
YouTube Friday to publicize a state law requiring drivers to give stopped emergency
vehicles an extra lane of space.

He is a lucky man to be alive. God Bless him. Damn stupid drivers respect no one. The person driving the mini van should have pulled over to the right as far as possible. The driver of the truck should have slowed down and moved over. Again this is proof possitive that most drivers are using the slow lane as the fast lane and passing lane.
11:37 the reason they are most likely using the slow lane for the passing lane is cause there is some bumpkin talking on their phone doing 5 miles under the speed limit in the fast lane. oblivious to everything around them.

I couldn't agree with you more. As a side note from this tragic incident I feel strongly that these people driving slow in the passing lane should be ticketed with hefty fines and points. They are the ones causing people to be "agressive drivers." They are the ones causing numerous accidents and they could care less if they are holding up 20 or more cars from passing. They don't care if you beep the horn. They don't care if you put the high beams on. They just flip the mirror and ignor you.
