There's been much discussion and debate over the foreclosed River's Edge complex in Salisbury and a new proposal has come to light.
This proposal would include apartments for people in the arts. It would include a gallery on the main floor to show, market and sell their goods.

Joe I may have mis- read this but an I to understand that this is going to be another word for a form of subsidized housing and who is going to pick up the " private " debt .
More section 8 housing from a punch of politicans that knows whats best for us. Next we'll need a grant for police officers. What a great country we live in. Vote them all back in!

First fact -- this is not section 8 or other rent subsidized housing. The private debt will be loaned by a bank or other commercial lender.
The tenants will be screened and any involved in illegeal drugs will be excluded.
This is s huge plus for all of Salisbury. If you don't like it move elsewhere if you even live here now.
The developer and operaing firms are already involved in other successful rental projects here.
I got as far as the sentence "The project will be marketed to, and a preference will be established for artists seeking apartments" in the first paragraph and could read no more of the proposal.
What a crock! Like there are so many artists in Salisbury looking for apartments.
This is nothing more than public housing (Projects)and needs to be nipped in the bud ASAP.
People need to go read about what this really is. Believe it or not, it's a good thing. My cousin in the midwest was telling me about a project like this a couple of months ago. If Salisbury did something like that here, I could support it. In fact, I'd be pleasantly surprised that someone did some thinking outside the box.
I have a problem with entitlements. Someone has to pay for everything that is free or reduced. Jim Ireton needs to go.
Artists have some special place with the Federal gov and the IRS, so I guess they qualify as low income and section 8. They are an elite group that produces a net national GDP of... well... nothing but a bunch of whims. Not that I'm against art or artists, but, art should be born of the profits and spare time of our works and produce.
Sadly, it's not.
So. Yes, it's section 8 housing right next door to all those folks who shelled out their own real money to buy condo units on Riverside Drive! Well, Howdy Do!
I'm willing to open my mind some. This sounds better than what was originally proposed.
The question is, can these developers be trusted to really go after this after the run around they gave the council the first time?
524 and others for this, do you really think the developers give a crap whether the "artists" moving in are really artists? Will they judge them by their portfolios? HAHAHAHAHAHA! No, they will rent to anyone claiming the IRS tax credit and run with the money. Nice scam. Show me a model in another city in America where this is truly a working model. Now.
OMG! This is a great idea! Sorry some of you think artists don't contribute to the economy, but oh yes they do.
I will listen to the presentation before deciding.

Doofus, the tax credit is for those who invest capital in the project, not the tenants. Now go back into your hole for the duration.
The first proposal was less than half-baked. It would have been a disaster. This one is interesting. The same developer built a nice "as promised" development on the property at Westwood. If there is a way to make sure that they do what they represent instead of something (bait and switch) like what happened at the property out by Skateland, this could be a very nice addition to Salisbury.
