Delegate Michael A. McDermott announces the dedication of State Highway funds for significant upgrades of the Rt. 13 Bridge spanning Pocomoke River
(POCOMOKE) -- “I am very pleased that the Rt. 13 Bridge serving Pocomoke City along with Somerset and Worcester Counties as a major roadway will receive significant upgrades in 2013” said Delegate Mike McDermott (R-District 38). “These much needed improvements have been hard sought and it is clear that the State Highway Administration is paying attention to our needs” continued Delegate McDermott.
The planned improvements call for a complete deck replacement for the two northbound lanes and a latex overlay for the two southbound lanes. The project is expected to cost between 9 and 10 million dollars. Donnie Drewer, the District Engineer for the State Highway Administration, stated “Once the bridge work is completed, they should be in like new condition.”
This is great news for the lower shore. Recent times have brought growing concerns with the condition of the bridges spanning the Pocomoke River. Many residents, along with Pocomoke City Mayor Bruce Morrison, have voiced their concerns over the need for repairs.
“This is clearly a case where the state prioritized a project... The allocation of these funds is a big win for the lower shore” concluded Delegate McDermott. The project is expected to begin in the early fall of next year.

Thank you Delegate McDermott and Mayor Morrison for staying on top of this to get some action. Both of those bridges are dangerous and this work is at least five years overdue.
SHA should take another look at how they prioritize projects. Repaving of Stockton Road was totally unnecessary at this time and a complete waste of money. Those dollars would have been better spent on the bridges.
