To the uninformed, this is a regular routine. There are 3 or more officers stationed on the curb between Philadelphia ave and Baltimore ave (near the 7-11). Some are on foot and some are on bikes. What they do is peek into the cars that enter from the Route 50 bridge to head northbound onto Baltimore ave. All they need is an excuse (seatbelt, open container, texting, cell phone use, etc) and they pull you over for a full search of the vehicle and its occupants. They then pull the car over to search body, vehicle, luggage, and anything else. They "mounted troopers" on bikes sometime ride between the lanes of Baltimore ave and you can watch their head bob from side to side in surveillance mode. They come from behind where you won't see them.
The point is that this is little different than having Government drones fly beside your car as you drive on Route 50. Younger visitors seem to be the targets and they are delayed hours as all this takes place. Get the crooks sure but but at what cost to privacy invasion?
You have been warned.
Get tinted windows or don't have anything illegal in plain view.
Don't consent to any searches.
Don't consent to any seizures.
If they are riding in-between lanes of traffic, they are riding illegally. If they are 'accidentally' bumped, it would be their fault.
They need to be on the side streets and the boardwalk and catch the "thugs" that are hanging out there, and leave the others alone. This kind of thing is what has sent many of us to go to other areas for vacation. I live in Maryland but spend my money in other states that are not too far away....

Ocean City has been a slime pit for quite some time. It's over function is to get drunk, get laid and do drugs.
Some of the cops I have talked to are of no professional quality, in my opinion.
Most of the higher ranking ones just want to sit in their vehicle and wave people over towards them so they don't even have to get out of their vehicle.
I'm sure they have their headaches with all the drunks and druggies that frequent that place, along with the prostitutes.
But if the city's budget that Joe has posted concerning their compensation is accurate, they are very well paid to walk a couple of blocks now and then.
The more money they make makes them lazier and very selective what infractions they will address.
That often happens when low mentality people get overpaid and begin to think they are really worthy of the pay they receive.
They should further their education about their chosen profession and take classes on acting professional, staying within the boundaries of the law, and make legitimate arrests that will not be thrown out when they reach the trial level.
Is that really too much to ask for? I think most of them think that due process should be trashed and let the cops decide their fate without a trial and legal representation.
Thank God it does not work that way and police are merely the enforcement arm of the judicial process. And sometimes very poor ones at that.
I hope some day that the cops can search cars , houses or shoot with- out warning. I would love a military state. You may as well get used to it , obamie will be elected again. You won't own a gun or a slingshot.

When I went over the bridge yesterday they were just standing (one with a bike) on the side of the road watching every car as it came over the bridge. It was very creepy. The first thing that I thought was that they may have been looking for a terrorist/escaped prisoner because it was strange how the two of them just stood there and looked at every car.
If they really are just looking for little things to pull people over and search their cars then shame on them! No one will want to come to OC and know that if a light is out on their car they will be searched and ticketed.

Please get rid of the moronic "Protect & Serve" crap. As you can see, this "operation" is merely an excuse for searching (and fining) citizens. People drive hundreds of miles to come to Ocean city for a family vacation and the FIRST thing they get is the once-over from the Gestapo before they even get to the hotel room. As soon as you ENTER Maryland, you run a gauntlet of radar sites, special patrols and the latest "campaign" (for your dollars) and then finally, THIS. No longer "innocent until proven guilty" and no longer free from police intimidation and harrassment as long as you presented no evidence of criminal activity. Oh no. Where's the money in THAT?? Like I said, get rid of any Constitutional Law training --- They can't SPELL it and it doesn't mean anything to them anyway.

At 1030 there were already 2 young customers sitting handcuffed on the curb.
I guarantee if you search them first you will find a small quantity of several illegal drugs and maybe an unregistered gun or two so they can manufacture evidence if you object to the illegal search. After they lie about probable cause of course.
I ask you, Who are the real criminals here?

Again this picture shows nothing. Pure speculation as to what happened which no one here knows. Officers stationed at the bridge and other major intersections ARE NOT there to peek in your car. They are there for mere presence alone. They do it during every special event ie car cruise etc

If I came across that bridge and seen you goons standing there looking for an excuse to harass someone, I would turn my car around and go somewhere else.

But every local knows OC is a slime pit anyway so we don't have to worry about your asinine tactics.
I usually finish my blunts by the time I get to the checkpoints so I have nothing to worry about. Buckle up, kids.
