Maryland's comptroller says tobacco and alcohol contraband
violations increased in the last fiscal year.
Comptroller Peter Franchot announced Wednesday that 196 people were charged with
tobacco violations in fiscal 2012, which ended July 1. He also says 325,851 packs of
cigarettes valued at nearly $2 million were confiscated.
The comptroller says both numbers represent a significant increase from the prior
two fiscal years, when 72,105 and 184,498 packs were seized, respectively.

And, Maryland could have had that money in the State coffers if our taxes were in line with our surrounding states!
BUT, NO! Now add how much was spent on extra LOE's to crack these cases. That money is gone as well!
Lower the tax, period.
Another losing proposition for the tax & spend liberals.I wonder how much less tax money is generated now that the tobacco tax was raised. Will they ever learn? Will we ever learn?
Got high taxes?
People forget the recent action by the local liquor board who purchased booze from Alabama in order to get a better price (because retailers now need to collect more taxes). Frahchot is simply grabbing for headlines in the hopes of an easy run for Governor. He is just more of the same that's there already. Fire him....
