New Castle- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a traffic crash which has closed a roadway in New Castle.
The incident occurred as David J. Hackett was operating a 2008 Mack dump truck and was traveling on westbound DE Rt. 273 through the intersection of US Rt. 13. The dump portion of Hackett’s truck, which was in the inclined position, stuck a traffic light support cable causing three traffic signals to fall to the ground.
David Hackett was not injured. He was cited by troopers with careless driving.
As a result of the crash, US Rt. 13 northbound has been closed at DE Rt. 273. Traffic is being diverted onto westbound DE Rt. 273 and then to northbound DE Rt. 141 (Basin Road). Commuters should expect heavy delays in the area and are asked to find alternate means of travel.
