Gov. Brown Tries to Cut Welfare in CA

California Gov. Jerry Brown, alarmed by the state’s $16 billion budget deficit, is supporting a proposal to make a major shift in the state’s welfare program.  The cuts, which would amount to only $880 million of the debt of $16 billion, would not solve the problem.

The governor is proposing a major overhaul of the state’s welfare-to-work program with the strategy of slashing people’s benefits to motivate them to get jobs faster. The move, if approved by the state legislature as part of the 2012-13 budget package, would save $880 million -- but beyond the savings, analysts say it might mollify those who believe the state isn’t serious about its budget woes.

Maybe all those welfare recipients can go to work for the hollywood libbies. They are about the only ones in America who have extra cash. That alone should tell you something.

Why not spread the wealth around, make those that are more fortunate pay their fair share, and tax the heck out of Hollywood movies stars?
Seems only fair since those on welfare aren't getting a fair chance.

"...would not solve the problem." Which problem? The state's welfare sysytem or the fact that it "only" cuts $880 million? THAT'S how big the deficit problem is in California, and it's hundreds of times worse at the federal level. We talk about $880 million like its not even worth our time to consider it. ONLY $880 million?? Just a clue here --- no single program cut or reduction is going to "solve the problem". It's going to come from an across-the-board slice and dice. Heavy on the dice. And its going to be painful. Maybe thats why DHS bought 450 million rounds of high power rifle ammo and why there are drones flying over the USA. US military units being trained in civilian crowd control/supression. New martial law and war powers authority being bantied about...Maybe THEY know what's coming (inevitably) and are (trying) to get a head start and get everything "ready to go"....its worth a thought.

I'll never understand why taking away other peoples money is fair in some peoples minds. If you can work then work if you can't you should receive enough to get by. The trouble is we have to many receiving and too few working. People need to work their fair share.
