Stop And Frisk Policy

An estimated 50,000 people took to the streets of New York City on Sunday to silently march against the NYPD's controversial "stop and frisk" policy. That policy allows police officers on the streets to randomly stop people and search them with little to no probable cause. Roughly 300 civil rights groups took part in the march arguing that "stop and frisk" unconstitutionally targets blacks and Hispanics. In 2011 alone, more than 685,000 people were stopped on the street by NYPD officers despite no charges being filed. Of those people, 87% were black or Hispanic. According to reports from Alternet's reporter Kristen Gwynne – the peaceful march turned chaotic when officers split the march in two and tried to kettle in a group of demonstrators. Several people were arrested.

50,000 people? And not a breath of this news on the MSM?

And isn't this a fourth amendment right? I'd have to use the second amendment on them.

Police need no reason at all to stop and talk to you. You can walk away if you'd like.

Eh. Has lowered the crime rate considerably. Plus, I'm white so why should I care?

It's the constitution...that's why you should care. Terry v. Ohio adresses this clearly. City police department "policy" cannot abridge the constitution. Period! If the scotus doesn't hand them their asses on this, our constitution is worthless.

Because when they come for whites, after they got everyone else first, it will be too late.

Most people don't care as long as it's the 'other guy' getting screwed.

I tend to agree with you on this one. And it may just come to that.

They worry about, make laws against, have programs towards bullies in school, but once you're an adult, they expect you to allow the bullies with a badge to accost you in any manner they feel.

All in the name of safety. And those oh so famous words, "If you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about."

50,000 against what? a couple of hundred cops? THAT was a lost opportunity by the citizens to teach some people who the country REALLY belongs to, and not get "corraled" and "funneled" to where some thugs with guns think they should be. I can't believe that 685,000 people were "stopped and FRISKED(!)" and more cops weren't killed. Someone has to stand up and say "enough" of this "we do what we WANT to and your rights mean less than zero to us" crap. and 7:04 --- YOU obviously have never tried to walk away from a cop who is talking to you. LOL! You may be assaulted, body slammed to the concrete and handcuffed, maced, beaten, or even killed. Yeah, the LAW says you can walk away, but thats the theory only. In practice, you are "hindering a police officer", "failing to obey a lawful order", "obstructing justice" and likely, "disturbing the peace". Innocent as you may be, you'll be in jail that night. THATS how it REALLY works. Ask ANY cop in Ocean City. Or just any cop. Don't DARE tell a Public Master that you have "rights". You might also get some stitches and a public record to go along with those "rights"....And I am STILL waiting on ONE COP to tell me what he did when he witnessed another cop breaking the law (not speeding or something like that --- I'm talking about beating a suspect in handcuffs, etc.) NOT ONE COP has responded. Hmmmmmm
