Bras For A Cause

Women Supporting Women Event a Success

Nearly 100 businesses, groups, and individuals participated in the 2nd Annual Bras for a Cause, a unique competition to help Women Supporting Women (WSW), a grass-roots local non-profit breast cancer support organization. “The talent that poured out of our folks here on the shore was amazing. Every time an entry came in the door, our staff stopped what they were doing to ‘Oooh’ and ‘Ahhh’,” said Sue Revelle, Executive Director of WSW. “The best part was the number of people who stopped by our table at the Centre at Salisbury, called, or came by our office to share their story, or receive services. This event started as an awareness campaign, and we succeeded in making more people aware of the importance of breast health. We were also able to reach and serve more survivors in more places here on Delmarva, and that’s a win for everybody.”

The winning didn’t stop there, however, as the event brought in over $11,000 for the non-profit organization. The overall top fundraiser was an aptly entry titled “Treasure Chest”. Its team of creators, called It’s a Family Thing, brought in over $1,500 alone. Says WSW’s Director of Fund Development, Carlos Mir, “Thanks to the partnership with the Centre at Salisbury, this event was simply awesome in every aspect… We can’t wait to do it again next year!”

Women Supporting Women is a local, grass-roots non-profit organization dedicated to providing awareness, education and support to all those who are affected by breast cancer. With no national ties or funding, we rely completely on our community to help us provide free services to our neighbors, friends and families right here on Delmarva. To learn more about WSW, visit www.womensupportingwomen.org or www.facebook.com/womensupportingwomen/delmarva , or stop by our Salisbury office located at 1320 Belmont Avenue, next to the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore.

Komen has raised billions of dollars in their 30 years of "non-profit"(TAX EXEMPT) Tell me one breakthrough in cancer research in that time. Non-profits exist to pay for the staff and board members--name one non-profit that has actually made a difference in their "cause"

11:38 You are so right. Koman paid there CEO $417,000 last year, that is a lot of donations wasted on keeping her in the high life.

this group isn't affiliated with komen. as a survivor helped by wsw i know what they do. they help women who are actually here now and dealing with cancer, not just a group like komen that comes in takes the money and runs. i won't patronize any business that supports a monster national group like komen instead of a local one like wsw. my problem with this photo is that heather mir calls herself a survivor but isn't. you can't be a survivor if you didn't have cancer.

WSW has nothing to do with Komen. WSW helps locals with many things. If you haven't heard of them go to their website.

The post that says Heather Mir is not a survivor...you obviously know nothing about her or her testimony. Nothing I read in the article or about the photo supports your statement "Heather Mir calls herself a survivor but isn't". Really?! Cancer isn't a competition and you should be ashamed being so petty about such a serious topic. Grow up.

WSW, keep rocking it out on the shore helping those that need you!!
