Don't Wait for Social Security Check in the Mail

Starting next year, the check will no longer be in the mail for millions of people who receive Social Security and other government benefits.

The federal government, which issues 73 million payments a month, is phasing out paper checks for all benefit programs, requiring people to get payments electronically, either through direct deposit or a debit card for those without a bank account.

This is a little off topic but I tried to call the Post office today to find out if they will be open late tomorrow night for the late tax filers. They were closed but I did get a hold of someone on their 800 number but she couldn't find out either. Will any of the Salisbury Post offices be open late tomorrow night? Many that are usually open late in other places are not staying open late this year. Maybe one of your readers works at the post office and can tell us if they will be open tomorrow night late so people can plan ahead and get there before 5PM

1:10 no not at all, electronic direct deposit doesn't rob you of one cent, and 7:11 you have plenty of time to do your taxes if you wait til the last possible day its your own fault, the USPS which doesn't receive taxpayer funding shouldn't stay open longer just for you

You really should not assume. Our taxes were filed the second week of Feb. I happen to read that some post offices were not open late this year and thought I would give people a heads up in case they had planned to mail them after 5pm
