Sen. Panel OKs Bill to Add 6th Casino, Table Games

ANNAPOLIS — A panel of state Senators is supporting legislation to expand gambling in Maryland.

The Budget and Taxation Committee voted 10-2 Friday afternoon to move the bill to the full Senate.

The proposal would create a sixth Maryland license for a slot machine parlor to be built in Prince George’s County and legalize table games at that location and the state’s five other slots sites.

It would also increase the share of revenue casino operators keep and relieve the state of an obligation to buy slot machines, which has proved to be an ineffective expense.

If the legislature passes the bill it will have to be ratified by a majority of Maryland voters.

If this bill increases the share that casino operators keep, doesn't that DECREASE the revenue "our children" benefit from? It's for education. Right!

In return for their increased share, the casino operators will have to buy their own slot machines, as I understand it. Right now, the state buys the slots and leases them to the casino owners.

Our leaders in Annapolis have really botched this one bad. They have screwed it up so bad they can't even get more than a couple of casinos opened.Maybe they should call Bob Ehrlich and get some advise.

Aren't the tracks asking for a million bucks from the state? I thought the slots were going to save the racing industry?
These morons in Annapolis are so gullible and naive.
Gamblings a losing propositon anymore. Casinos are everywhere. No one's going to come on vacation to OC when just about everyone has slots within an hour of their own homes.
It is time to clean house in Annapolis. The majority of the bunch is nothing but a bunch of brown noser, butt kissers like the crew now kissing the butts of the fire sprinkler system makers.
Thank God for Del McDermott.

This is for the proposed 1 billion dollar casino to be built at the National Harbor. Personally, I'm against it(although I'm not anti gambling). It's right down the street from my home, literally a 2 minute drive. It's a pure money grab for the state, nothing more. The Dems say they "care" about the people, all they care about is getting more out of your pocket.

National Harbor casino will also grab $$$ from Northern VA and DC. MD politico's want this $$$ grab cuz Northern VA has lots of $$$$$. And the VA legislature in Richmond will do absolutely NOTHING about it!
