(Rockville, MD) – The Maryland State Police Aviation Command received the 2012 Public Safety Government Partner of the Year Award from the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.
Superintendent of the Maryland State Police, Colonel Marcus L. Brown joined by Lieutenant Colonel Pete Landon, Chief of the Field Operations Bureau, proudly accepted the award on behalf of the Maryland State Police Aviation Command at the 38th Annual Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Public Safety Awards Luncheon. Over 1000 guests, comprised of the public safety community, business leaders, elected officials, and media, attended this year’s event. The event was held at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Montgomery County Conference Center in Rockville.
The Public Safety Government Partner of the Year Award, sponsored by Motorola Solutions, recognizes a federal, state or other governmental agency that strengthens Montgomery County public safety agencies through outstanding leadership and collaboration to ensure a positive and integrated response to challenges that impact the National Capitol region. Last year’s award was presented to Dr. Thomas M. Scalea, physician-in-chief, of the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
The Maryland State Police Aviation Command is the only flight program in Maryland that performs medevac aerial law enforcement, search and rescue, homeland security, and disaster assessment. Since 1970, The Maryland State Police Aviation Command remains a close partner with the public safety agencies of Montgomery County.
Through their extraordinary service, the Maryland State Police Aviation Command has been instrumental in saving the lives of citizens throughout the county and throughout Maryland. To date, there have been approximately 138,000 life saving transports by medevac in Maryland.
