Maryland Senate Approves Same Sex Marriage

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Senate -- Maryland is poised to become the eighth state in the nation to approve same sex marriage after state Senators voted 25-22 Thursday to approve the governor's Civil Marriage Protection Act of 2012.

"We all cherish our family and for many of us in this state, the heart of that family is someone we love dearly who happens to be a person of the same gender," said Montgomery County Sen. Rich Madaleno Jr., D-District 18.

"I think it's very hard to imagine a real marriage without that license, which represents a lifetime commitment that we have made to that central person in our lives ... We are going to make history because we are going to take another step toward embracing every family from the state of Maryland," said Madaleno, an openly gay member of the Senate.

Good, congrats to them.

Take note everyone - this does not affect me, so why should I care? If someone is happy, let them be happy. If two people of the same sex want to get married, so be it. Its none of my business to butt into someones personal life. Happiness shouldnt be restricted to a law.

All you have to do is just accept it and move on. The world is constantly changing and you have to adapt to live in it.

Homosexuality is an act not a person... Screw Mary-land!

These politicians can't balance a budget cause they are to busy worrying about this disgusting stuff. Please I ask has anyone seen much that is more disgusting as seeing this in public?

Does this mean they are going to remove Sodomy from the books, I hate to see all the new gay marriages charged... Or maybe they will find a new way to make money....

Maryland, love them or leave them, Glad I left them

marriage is between a man and a woman. marriage is more than just a contract or an agreement; it's a holy union under God.

this will not be good for our state. case closed.

7:16 It might not affect you but it will affect every child in the public school system. Once gay marriage is legal it will be taught or referenced as normal and there won't be a damn thing a parent can do to stop it.

Our country is becoming a disgrace.

7:59 please give me an example of act of marriage being taught in public schools?
For some reason I can't remember EVER being taught this. I have asked friends who have children older than mine, and they don't know where it is being taught either.

Even in California (the land of fruit and nuts) gay marriage is illegal. It's time for me to leave this crazy state of Maryland. O'Malley needs to go also! I am NOT for two men or two women marrying each other....case closed! I knew of two women years ago who got married, then wanted a divorce several years later. Turned out one of them ended up marrying a man....geesh! Half of them don't know what they want.

All such marriages should be given a FREE honeymoon in Iran by the State.

So...7:34...is heterosexuality a person? or is that just an act, too?

Are you that F*n stupid!!! Read his comment again.

"Once gay marriage is legal it will be taught or referenced as normal and there won't be a damn thing a parent can do to stop it."

It never mentioned any thing about Fagism being taught in schools now.

8:38, when we were in school examples of marriage between a man and a woman were in books and stories. NO ONE EVER imagined it would come to this.

this topic was NEVER thought about or discussed. we have become depraved. for those of us who still have morals in tact, this society is so very coarse and crud. we were truly a good, moral nation at one time.

the "younger" people on this blog have not had the wonderful opportunity to have lived during this time. so sad for you...

Thank you to Maryland Senate! I feel sorry for those who are unable to understand that marriage is made up of love and committment to one person. Too many young people have committed suicide because they were unable to face the problems imposed by the ignorant, many in the past were made up of their own family members.
I agree with those who feel the Governor should go; but not for the reasons of this issue, more for the economic stupidity he is showing.

Thanks, 9:41, for straightening 7:34 out. Homosexuality and heterosexuality are not "acts." They are states of being. You are what you are. You cannot become one or the other. And, while maybe the concept of marriage will not be taught in schools, the idea of same-sex parents and their children making up a family unit will have to be taught.

9:44, why shouldn't transgenders have rights?

Dam,
When I was a younger black women, the only thing I had to compete with for a man was another black women, As I got older; I had to compete with, not only a black women for the affection of a man but also a white women. Today, I have given up on relationships because the competetion is too fierce. Not only do women have to compete with so many different ethnic and worldly cultured women for one man affection, these women most likely compete with salad tossing, rump shaking, bottom bandits on the downlow men for the affection of one man, I feel sorry for the real women of today and the future. Women who are married, STAY MARRY. From past experience, the grass is never green on the other side. You might step in knee deep mud.

To all of the people who think that this won't affect them look at what 9:58 said. "The idea of same sex parents and their children making up a family unit WILL HAVE TO BE TAUGHT"! Sorry, it is wrong to have story time about Jim and Bill and how their alternative lifestyle is normal.

It is just like saying polygamy is normal. I don't care how many laws are passed, God will never accept homosexuality.

11:47,

This country is not a christian nation. This country is not a muslim nation. This country is not a buddhist nation. Every religion possible pertains to this nation. You can believe/worship whatever the hell you want in this country, and thats whats so great about it.

So just because something is wrong to your religion, shouldnt have any affect on a law. Religion should have nothing to do with the law.

Straight out of the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution. Actually, the very first line -

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;"

Meaning, that just because Christianity doesnt support homosexuality, the government can in no way take that into effect when considering this law in particular.

The same constitution in place 20, 40, 100, 200 years ago.

1:02 If God has nothing to do with the law, then why are there laws. Where does right and wrong come from?

Maybe by your estimation we will see bestiality, pedophilia and polygamy passed into law. What makes them wrong? Shouldn't people do whatever makes them happy?

"I don't care how many laws are passed, God will never accept homosexuality." (11:47). God must accept homosexuality because He made us as we are. Homosexual behavior is a whole different thing. As stated above, one is what he is from birth. It's that simple. If one if heterosexual, he was born that way; he didnt choose it. The same with homosexuality.

Congrats to MD for this wonderful news. I was born and raised there, I now live on the west coast with my partner and our beautiful children who are happy, health and proud to have 2 Mommies! Our state dosn't allow for us to get married yet but now we can go back to my home town and have a beautiful ceremony. Won't that be a hoot! All the redneck, narrow minded, bible thumping hypocrites would have a field day with that. HA...I wouldn't give them the satisfaction!

to 10:12 We maybe redneck, and narrow minded and Bible thumpers. But hypocrites, we are not. When you die and God says you disrespected my word and lived an immoral life as stated in my book of Leviticus 18, we shall see who has the last laught. No matter what Maryland law states, you can not disrespect God. You have two children, you did not have alone. God says a man was needed to sperm these kids, what does that tell you about man and women. Hell will not be pleasant for you. Keep turning up your nose to God, it will be a horrible price to pay.
