Bridge Tolls Rising Again

Drivers of largest trucks to pay more starting at midnight

Commercial truckers driving vehicles with more than four axles will start paying 60 percent more tomorrow to cross the Bay Bridge.

Drivers of some smaller commercial vehicles, however, will actually pay less than right now.

"Larger vehicles have more of an impact on the roadway," said Teri Moss, spokeswoman for the Maryland Transportation Authority, explaining why some commercial vehicles will see a larger toll increase than others.

"We wanted to put the tolls more in line with the impact the vehicles were having on the roadway."

Maryland is holding 'True to Form'

Maryland officials tend to go after the small groups with little or no voice. That is the way Maryland has always operated.

Then - after they have snuffed out and suffocated all of the small groups - they'll come knocking on your door for a bailout. At which time there will not be any of your fellow neighbors left around you to help to defend you.

That's the Maryland way of doing business.

A Democrat run state! Run into the ground on the backs of the tax payer.

Yeap! You got that right. Maryland goes after the small ones with little or no voice. They figure the truckers won't raise cain so they'll tax them - right into oblivion.

They did the same with financing the Medivac fleet. First it was a 3 dollar registration fee. Then - they increased it all the way up to where it is now. Funny how John Astle (D) - who initially supported the initial fee structure is now whistling to a different tune. He now advocates privitization after witnessing all of the corruption.

As a volunteer FF - the MD medivac unit can now bill individual insurers for their service. That is in addition to the fees that they collect from the DMV that originally financed the service.

It is scary as to what is happening in this country - particularly here in Maryland.

Booooooo MD. Don't be like VA govt officials who still regulate like the 1800s. Don't tax our Trucker family only. Taxes should be equal to everyone. Why? Cuz the trucker industry will still pass the increased taxes to consumers. Joe I know I'm beating a dead horse here - but GAS needs to be the sole TAX so everyone pays the tax so not only MDers do. 5/10/15 cents a gallon since EVERYONE pays for gas - including our truckers. So narrowminded Annapolis is most times....narrow minded and short term thinking. Need to think LONG term and strategically for all of our well being....NOT politicalizing everything. I like a gasoline tax rather than something else since EVERYONE pays. Not MDers, not Salisburiers, Not OC'ers...everyone passing through the state PAYS! Then the revenue needs to be managed PROPERLY! BUSHMAN!
