Adam Roop Says, I'm Running For Mayor Of Salisbury
Adam Roop of Exit Realty is fed up and wants to make a difference. He says he wants to be your next Mayor and will do so "full time".
"Adam R Roop
I'm running for Mayor. And I'm not doing it for the money.....because I don't need the money. I'm doing for you. Put my name on the ballot!"
Adam called me Friday night to express his intentions and asked if I'd moderate an event he wants to hold this Saturday at the Black Diamond Hall.
"Adam R Roop
I'm holding a brunch meeting at black diamond in Fruitland next Saturday. There will be guest speakers and a moderator. Its free for all...omelets, potatoes, wheat toast....no limit to the amount of people. come one come all!!"
It seems Adam is fed up with how things are going in Salisbury and wants to hear what others think. Many people are growing very tired of the lack of leadership and professionalism of those elected into Office and Adam wants the community to know RIGHT NOW, he's tired of it, he's embarrassed and he wants to make a positive difference.
There are a select group of Adam Roop haters out there. Many are jealous and envious of this young mans business success, yet none of those haters step up to the plate by putting their names into the hat to make a difference. Instead, they hide behind anonymous and attack Mr. Roop. I, (for one) tip my hat to Mr. Roop for being willing stand up for what he believes in. Win, lose or draw, Adam Roop is at least man enough to try.
I will attend this event on Saturday and I hope many of you will join us. Let's make something very clear here. I, Joe Albero and Salisbury News are not announcing any endorsement at this time. I am simply fulfilling Mr. Roop's wishes by participating. There will be NO hate comments posted, period. So don't waste your time doing so, unless you choose to publish your name. It has always been our policy to publish comments with your name attached as you then OWN the comment.

Can you post a date and time? Thanks!
The event will be held on the 7th. I have yet to get an exact time. As soon as we have it we will let everyone know.
New Blood, nice!
Let's just hope he can negotiate a truce with the WWTP suit entities before Salisbury goes into default.
With the legal bills still racking-up and depletion of the sewer/water operational account surplus - the carnage that will remain by the time he enters office - it may be to late to salvage Salisbury.
A free meal!! Sign me up! As a realtor and landlord, I wonder how he feels on the issue of rentals and home ownership in Salisbury? As well as the issue of crime in relation to rentals. I know the rental next to me has been empty the last two months and it has been the best Christmas present I have ever gotten.
Isn't there anyone with some age and maturity that could run?
If he backs what he says, I'd support him. We need someone who is willing to fight to improve things. Maturity does not always come with age 12:44. Young or old, we need a true fighter.
I agree with Phil. I don't know Adam personally, but I've run into him through mutual friends. He is a people person, ambitious, and he could not have become successful in business without a good head on his shoulders. If I am not mistaken, he comes from good roots, too, with values our society seems to have lost. Adam would get my vote. Especially against Ireton.
The event will take place at 10:00 AM on Saturday the 7th.
Is Jim Ireton invited?
Nice new blood, and cute to boot.
I'd vote for ya.....:)
I knew his Mother----If he's anything like her----He's a keeper!
Sorry-----didn't know his father but he'd have to be special also to have married her.
Joe thank you for your support. I appreciate you and everyone else who has sent me words of encouragement. Please help everyone understand that this is a public meeting being held to dicuss Salisbury politics and share ideas and recommendations on how we can improve our city for the best. I want it to be informal with no high expectations, just a meeting of the minds. I welcome everyone to join, but im most interested in meeting with other motivated individuals who are interested in running for office and meeting with people who have a vested interest in the success of Salisbury and the Eastern Shore at large. Whether I win or lose, more awareness of our local political atmosphere needs to be brought to the attention of the citizens of Salisbury. Salisbury has the upmost potential, but will never acheive it's maxium growth if people don't step up, help out, and take matters into their own hands. Thank you for your time. I look forward to meeting with everyone on Saturday. (Sent via cell phone. Pease excuse any grammatical errors)
I'm not if anyone who is mayor--even if it were the good Lord Himself--can work with this Council. We used to blame it all on Barrie and now on Ireton. It's time for some good people to step up for Council

For your information the biggest problem was Barrie and now it's Jim Ireton!!
Small minds talk about people.. Average minds talk about events.. But great minds talk about ideas. Adam Roop is business savy with the great mind to get the job done. Just reading his announcement pumped me up! You have my vote. -Tyler Barnes
I'm not a resident of Salisbury so I can't vote but did want to put in my two cents. I've worked with and known the Roop family for many years now and I can tell you Adam couldn't have come from and learned from better parents than Harry & Kim.
As Joe says, Adam does have his haters and I'm sure they'll have very strong opinions about this but I have to say, I used to be someone who wasn't a big fan of his in the past either... BUT I've had the pleasure of watching him mature into a fine, innovative, intelligent, extremely hard-working young man full of fresh ideas who just may be able to help Salisbury. If you've known Adam or heard things about him in the past don't discount him for that, I can tell you for sure, he has become a person you would be proud to call a friend.
Would he be a good Mayor? Who knows, but at least hear what he has to say and give him a chance to win your vote, what's it going to hurt? Then, if you don't like what he says or represents throw your hat into the ring and run against him. At the very least, respect him for standing up for his beliefs and being courageous enough to put himself out there.

I know Adam because at one time he managed a property that I rented. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I needed his understanding and compassion regarding a personal problem that affected my rental agreement. To my great surprise, he went above and beyond, doing everything he said he would do including contacting me and visiting me to make sure I was okay. He is a fine young man.
I worry that it is the same old trick that we fell for with the "Clean Sweep Dream Team" who saddled us with tens of millions of unneccessary debt over their mistakes and deals for buddies. THen there was Louise, fiscal responsibility, Smith...let's get along. Now we have Mitchell and Ireton. Mitchell violated her pledge for civil behavior before she was even sworn in, and now every day. Ireton loves to see his picture. He and Mitchell both. Look at me, look at me. Press conferences, interviews, no work. They had ideas too, but they just made empty promises. Roop seems nice enough, but he has been absent from the city dialog. I am worried that he will see the city as his empire and we will see more deals like the firehouse giveaway and developer payouts. He seems to like to be popular and that's a dangerous quality in an elected official.
I have known Adam for many years and have to say that he is dedicated, passionate, and motivated to make a positive difference in our community. Adam is a leader and has all the characteristics Salisbury needs. I'm proud of you Adam for taking this risk and doing what you know is right! I wish you lots of luck!
I've met and dealt with both Adam and his Dad, Harry. These guys have very innovative ideas and stay up on the latest in business sense. I am sure thatpiclendi Adam could be a very valuable mayor for our city, and support his efforts. I also think we have a very good City Council, and think that Adam would be a great working partner for them.
I'm only 23, and I joke with my boss all the time about running for office. We need young fresh opinions in the mix. After all, we are the future. And I think we as well have had it with everything going on in town. I will definitely back him and do anything I can to support him.
I knew Adam when he was growing up but left Salisbury before learning him as a man. However I have to say that I consider his father, Harry to be one of the most reputable individuals that I ever met and with Adam coming from stock like Harry (and his mom, Kim) he should be winner
He announced his intentions at a club in Rehobeth beach the other night good luck Adam.
Wh is he having it out of Salisbury?
I wish him well. Salisbury has a ton of potential. However, unless the council and mayor are changed, the area will continue to decline. Myself and a group of professionals left Salisbury due to the lack of opportunity and nonsense in city politics. The community as a whole has suffered. Salisbury can't stand any more brain drain or people too caught up in themselves to look out for the good of the city. I truly hope there is some strong young competition for council as well. A blind man can see Salisbury is going nowhere fast.
I am all about young and new faces with new ideas and takes on current issue; however, there needs to be a level of experience necessary to actually do the job. I'm not "hating" on this young man here nor am I trying to meddle in his personal life, but as a citizen of Salisbury I feel it is my civic duty to enlighten my fellow voters.
First you must ask yourself, what does Mr. Roop do for a living and what makes him qualified to be our mayor? Real estate and property management is his career and area of expertise. While in general, folks in real estate are fairly in tune to their communities because their livelihoods depend on strong community ties. Mr. Roop does have that going for him. But what he lacks is the experience, both in politics and government. Personally, I feel that his lack of experience in politics is a rather beneficial trait these days. Not choosing sides, blazing your own trail and representing the people who elected you gets to farther than those who team up with others on special interests. His lack of experience in politics can shade him on the side of individualism if he can stay away from alliances that candidates tend to seek in order to receive votes. Personally, I think that running for Mayor is a rather high first mark in anybody's political career; I think he would be better off running for council first to get some experience under his belt.
In my opinion, Mr. Roop's lack of experience in Government is what really takes him out of the race (at least for now). What does he know about budgets, taxation, operating procedure, legislation, bonds, personnel, fiscal planning, etc? You can't just simply hop in the Mayor's seat and drive off the lot like a new car. It is certain that he'll need the first year of his term in office just to learn government and the second year to learn his job. What does this admirably ambitious young man know about public works, planning, zoning, roads, police, fire, wastewater treatment plants, code enforcement, etc? What does he know about working with Council and has he even attended Council meetings?
Like I said, I'm not here to hate, I'm here to acknowledge Mr. Roop's downsides that he must work on before he at least gets my vote. He needs to do a lot of homework before election day. He needs to attend council meetings, he needs to go to planning commission meetings, he needs to create relationships with the County Executive and County Council, he needs to research and review previous budgets, he needs to understand taxation limitations, he need to understand how the City's various departments operate.
There is no doubt that Mr. Roop will put himself out there for this job and quite frankly, I think (given he educates himself in the areas of his insufficiencies) he would make a great Mayor. Mr. Roop knows how to leave the BS at the door. He goes full throttle at anything and everything he does. There is no doubt that many folks will comment on his reputation in order to bring him down, but I think his character is what will bring him and this City success. He doesn't care if steps on somebody's toes and I can guarantee you that he won't be afraid to piss off the council majority or special interests if he goes against the grain in an attempt the better this City and its citizens. His announcement for candidacy for Mayor proves that he doesn't care what others think of him. He wants to gain the chance to lead despite those who want him to fail.
Is this my endorsement of Mr. Roop?? Absolutely not; however, if he makes the proper adjustments and educates himself to make him a better candidate for Mayor of Salisbury, I will be punching his name at the polls. I think you all will be surprised at the effort and success of this guy. I've known him for a very long time and he has always kept me in awe.
Good luck to you Mr. Roop!
10:24, I agree, and think that Adam's work ethic will allow him to be one of Salisbury's better leaders! He has shown through that he can get the job done and has no problem with doing his homework.
Very impressed that he is willing to step up and do the right/hard thing.
I'm glad to know we have good, talented people here that are also willing to back it up.
Roop is the man. If people want to hate then let em hate and watch the money pile up. Your acn comrad
